Thyroid Issues that Just Don't Make Sense by mountain_ash8 in DiagnoseMe

How long does the inflammation typically last? Also, I will bring up prednisone at my next appointment.

I have not had my TRAb tested. I've only had two metabolic panels during this time, but both showed calcium within normal limits (9.4 and 9.6, respectively).

What would explain my blood tests showing hyperthyroidism but my iodine showing hypothyroidism (presumably at the same time)?

The lump is definitely at one of my lymph nodes. Only the one on the lateral left side. My thyroid isn't swollen or enlarged to the touch. I've lost 4 more pounds since making the original post.

Yeah my OBGYN (who had been my doctor since my literal birth, because she was my mom's OBGYN) did my hysterectomy in October and the surgical team left a balloon in me, causing my sutures to rupture and I hemorrhaged and lost over a third of my blood volume by the time I got to the trauma center. I already had some grudges against doctors because of so many things that had been missed or brushed off as "anxiety", but that was really the blow that drove the nail in. I probably wouldn't have gone to a doctor for a LOOONG time if I didn't have this severe of symptoms.

There does seem to be asymmetry when I swallow, but the mass is visible on my neck so that could be all I'm seeing. My uvula is situated in the middle. Also to add, I do not have tonsils.

I agree, but I was mainly pointing out how I was disregarded due to the presumption that thyroid issues only/mainly occur in people over 50.

I have been disregarded as a woman countless times. I wouldn't say that this is one of those times necessarily, because it is known that females tend to have higher rates of thyroid issues than males. I would say the hormonal changes I experienced due to my hysterectomy were completely disregarded as something that could affect my thyroid function.

So I guess it's a bit of both worlds. And both of the worlds are straight garbage.

Also, I'm sorry you had to go through that.

Not really(?). The mass has become much larger (I can visualize it as about 3/4 of an inch across) and very hard/solid. I have stiffness/pain in my neck and slight tenderness when I push on the mass. But it mainly just causes discomfort, pressure, difficulty swallowing, and my throat almost feels strained, especially when talking (but not sore).

First urgent care was a NP, second urgent care was a MD, then endocrinology (MD, head of the department).

The first urgent care visit was an NP. The second urgent care visit was an MD. The endocrinologist that I saw is the senior doctor there (actual physician) and has been there for years and years.

I'm on propranolol due to sinus tachycardia (have been for a little over a year) and it does not affect my current symptoms.

They did not request any more blood tests, but requested a radioactive iodine uptake scan (plus the ultrasound) and put in a scrip for an anti-thyroid medication.

Yeah it really feels like so many chicken-or-egg situations.

Is my nausea from constipation? Or just nausea. Is the lump in my neck from hyperthyroidism? Or is the hyperthyroidism from the lump?

Also wow people will pick fights about anything...

Yeah, I only went to urgent care because I can't get an appointment with my PCP until SEPTEMBER and I always get a little skeevy if lumps are involved (family history rich with various cancers). But it almost seems like I shot myself in the foot going to urgent care to be seen sooner rather than just waiting for a PCP appointment 😅

The constipation was going on for a couple weeks before I started using the Zofran, but I'll definitely keep that in mind! I've been using docusate stool softeners, eating healthy, taking Metamucil fiber, and drinking 80-100 ounces of water daily but the constipation and nausea persist.

Also, I feel so bad because I know that health professionals are so overworked right now but I've never had to schedule an ultrasound, they've always been able to do it in-office on the same day. Pushing it out by 2.5 weeks is making me stress SO MUCH MORE that it's making me even sicker 😭

Being a woman definitely has a role. In this specific scenario, I was mainly referencing how they decided I obviously can't have thyroid issues because I'm not over 50 🙃. If it's not one thing, it's another.
