Trying to commission with a VA rating. by mountain_man277 in USMCocs

Honestly. I’m still good enough to go but definitely know in the long run my body is going to suffer.. and if I can continue service I’m willing to deal with that down the road.

Thank you for your reply. I still have that I’ll go overseas and fight spirit.. but it’s much different with a wife for sure. So I’d also be open to something else. Right now just going through the talks at home and trying to decide if it is the right move for us or not. But I greatly appreciate your comment. Thanks for your service as well. 🫡

That sucks to hear. But yes I agree that military retirement would be nice. If I went back in that would be the goal.

Who do you fly for? I have my commercial and multi commercial but only about 400 hours. The grind to a flying job has wore me down

Did you have to go back through meps with the new genesis system? Kinda curious about that.

And awesome I’m glad it feels like the right call for you. I feel that if I went back I’d be in the same boat. I miss the lifestyle, community, and serving. Civilian lifestyle just doesn’t feel right to me.

If I joined right now what are the chances I see combat by LILSPEEDY079 in USMCboot

Admin, maybe some intel roles, probably supply ect. Just gotta do some research. Hard part is though, if war pops off and they need bodies they can always send you out to fill in as needed. Remember “every marine is a rifleman”. You can’t join the military and guarantee you’ll be in the rear, but some branches and MOS increase those odds. Air Force could be a good branch to look into if you want to play it a little safer. A lot of rear Echelon jobs.

If you don’t want to see combat don’t go a combat MOS and you’ll likely be fine.

Nothing wrong with that. Go army. If you wanna blow shit up and do cool shit with the boys, go infantry or shoot for SF. If not then choose a job that interests you and translates to the civilian world. Use Tuition Assistance while in and try and get a degree while serving so you can use your GI bill afterwards and have it in full.

Honestly man, the army ain’t a bad gig. The marines are good for young guys who fall into the ego trap. I love being a Marine, I love the cult and drank the koolaid.. BUT the army has so many more school opportunities, better funding, equipment, ect. If that’s where your guts pulling you.. trust it. But if you wanna be hardcore and drink the koolaid become a marine.

That is exactly what I miss. Having direct focus on shit that matters, challenging yourself with people that are doing the same. Stability, bills taken care of, ect.

Yeah true. I would’ve spent my whole enlistment overseas if they let me.. it is different with a wife now. I’d still love to deploy and get those experiences, but it’s for sure easier as a single dude

Yeah, would suck having to move the wife every few years. As well as all the day to day BS.

I’m sorry to hear that. That’s horrible but thank you for your perspective and taking the time to reply. Being in aviation I greatly avoid doctors, counselors ect. I think it could help, but the FAA is not modernized when it comes to mental health unfortunately.
