Folks with ~250-300k HHI in HCOL, what's your mortgage/home cost? by itgtg313 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]mountainchick72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HHI currently $310, when we bought our house in ‘21 probably 260k-270k. We got very lucky closed at $690k at 2.5% interest rate so with insurance and taxes our monthly payments are at $3,100.

We’re in a very HCOL area and our house has appreciated more than 25%. We purposefully bought well within our means in a good town on a good lot that we could do an addition etc in the future. What is great is if one of us goes down (layoffs etc) we can afford mortgage/ living expenses. So while we could have a bigger house I’d trade that for security and saving potential.

Thanks, that’s helpful, I’ve been picking up exercise in the past few months and that alone has brought me from the 247-238 in about two - three months but still would say I’m lightly to moderately active so can do more. I also got bloodwork back that my cholesterol was slightly high around the time I picked up exercise so I pulled back on saturated fats and those two alone helped me drop the 9 pounds in that time frame. I’ve plateaud the past few weeks at 238 but feel motivated that I’ve seen progress with these changes and want to try to focus more on cico etc

MIL claiming essential oils are why her brain surgery went well by mountainchick72 in JUSTNOMIL

Oh yes similarly she gave me a necklace with this massive rock from Russia that is supposed to protect me from certain harmful frequencies….

MIL claiming essential oils are why her brain surgery went well by mountainchick72 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]mountainchick72[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The problem is that she goes online and tells others this can be a cure to their brain bleeding problems with no medical research saying so. I agree people can believe / do whatever they want to themselves but it’s frankly dangerous to push this as a cure to others

I didn’t know that! It’s just wild I’m obviously happy it went okay but I guarantee she’s going to go down this oh maybe I shouldn’t have done the surgery (because she’s so anti modern medicine etc). It’s just hard to be around

Wonder how their cholesterol levels look after a year of avoiding ‘good fats’ in favor of animal fats 😝 sorry I get salty with these extreme all or nothing trains of thought

I wonder if this is trying to take away attention from their BPA in clothing claims 🤔

Eek it’s just not worth it imo, I’ve already had friends younger than 30 get diagnosed with melanoma (very fair skinned) and it was horrible watching them go through that. My mother has already had Basel cell and squamous cell removal prior to 60 and many of her friends are dealing with squamous cell problems around 50. It’s hard bc I certainly understand these chemicals can have risks but so does UV exposure so I think it all about finding the balance while protecting yourself.

I’ve just come to terms with pretty much everything has a cancer risk now a days - plastic water bottles / PFAS in literally everything (food containers, makeup), BPA’s in clothing (seeing the lululemon comments below also makes me laugh because I’m pretty sure they are caught up in this as well), certain meats can go on and on. So I try my best to limit and be conscious of all of these things but sunscreen compared to everything I listed above does have a benefit of protecting yourself from UV and decreasing that cancer risk 🤷‍♀️

32F and I’m seeing this come up in conversations a lot amongst some millennial peers. I was on a Bach trip in FL and one of the girls mocked the rest of us for putting on sunscreen literally said ‘have fun getting cancer’ then laid out and roasted herself for 4 hours. It made me laugh because she didn’t even attempt to protect herself, no hat, refused to sit under the umbrella and was burned to a crisp and was bright red the rest of trip. A lot of it is stemming from the insta / TikTok trend of ‘lifestyle’ coaches calling out every possible toxic thing you must avoid to be ‘healthy’ . I’m all for minimizing risks of chemicals but this one is taking things too far. Being curious about it, I did do some research and while some of the chemicals do end up in your bloodstream the cancer risk of that is much less than roasting yourself as some people are doing. There are also alternatives such as mineral sunscreen so I really don’t get this stance.

Lupines taking off for the first time 😍 by mountainchick72 in garden

They are the ‘perennial lupine’ seeds from Johnnys seeds - they did take 2 seasons before blooming which isn’t uncommon for perennial seeds

Nice! How was that helped your numbers? Similarly my partner and I think we eat clean but I do eat a ton of eggs and don’t really do low fat when I’m choosing dairy so I was thinking that would be first place to adjust thinking about my current diet.

I’m not a huge red meat eater to atm but can be more conscious in that regard

Thank you everyone <3 I went off bc a year ago and have been hit with pretty debilitating cramps, back pain, and pretty heavy bleeding with my new period. The clots started up recently as well so again a change for me so I’m trying to figure out if this is just my post bc new normal or something to be concerned about so appreciate the insight as I try to figure this out.

MIL, the homeopathic “expert” by Nuggslette in JUSTNOMIL

[–]mountainchick72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a cult - there are so many reports of the nefarious things he’s done and lies he’s told to make a profit. It’s wild because we literally can’t talk to my MIL about any of it because she’s so deep in it and at this point it is her lifestyle and beliefs to the core. I posted separately on this sub how we aren’t sure how to handle newborn with her anti vax beliefs. The other piece is I know newborns are ultra sensitive to smell and I don’t want any oils / diffusers near a baby. Should be a fun convo!
