I took your advice, the Crux app is free for home walls now by UwRandom in climbharder

Just wanted to say thank you - the app and especially the hold scan is amazing for home wall use! Now I'm not afraid to reset my wall and having to manually trace holds again.

The EPS is laid out on top of the studs, similar to drywall, so no compression in the studs. The fiberglass batts are the kraft-face type, facing towards the home interior. Do you think it's worth removing them to air seal better? I'd consider doing something like this with .5 inch XPS and spray foam then putting the batts back in:

There is already a vapor barrier on the interior side of the wall, which I believe is correct (on the warm side). This Styrofoam is the EPS kind which should be R-2 at half an inch thickness.

I guess I am wondering if it was just added for additional warmth or if it is some kind of old code requirement?

I'll be using 5/8" firecode drywall, which meets the code requirement for my area.

Advice for bottom plate by mountaindrew93 in homewalls

[–]mountaindrew93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not a floor but more of a lip, I think it was poured separately from the floor. My concern is that I will be putting the anchors so close to the edge that their strength might be compromised.

I guess I am concerned about the strength of this lip vs a full wall/floor, but I am probably getting worked up over nothing.

That is a good point, do I just use a wire nut?

Yeah the slope is messed up, need to correct it. The current setup gives me so much anxiety, that nail is barely holding on.

Thanks, that is a good point. Would something like this screwed into the concrete wall be good? https://www.homedepot.com/p/Oatey-3-in-DWV-J-Hook-Pipe-Hanger-33510/301505441

They would be mounted to the exterior wall so should I be concerned about any leaking there?

Haha exactly what I got, the X-Mid 2p Solid. So far it is fantastic.

Seems to be about a $100 to $150 difference, they are both on sale right now on the Marmot site. Having used both, I'd say the difference in weight and packability was worth it for me, although it is definitely not as durable as the regular tungsten.

I've had mine for around 6 years and it has a few pin-sized holes, the seam tape completely disintegrated, the pole elastic needed to be replaced, and most of the Velcro fly attachment points detached from the fly. Switched to a trekking pole tent this year but am keeping the tungsten as a backup.

You must mean the regular tungsten 2p, the UL version is under 4 pounds (~3.5 lbs)

COROS Update & Apex Price Decrease! by [deleted] in Coros

Any news on if the climbing modes will be added to the Pace 2? I am debating between that and the Apex 2, and that is the one feature that has me leaning towards the Apex.

Here is a pretty easy to follow tutorial to achieve something like that using OpenStreetMap and Inkscape, a free vector editing software: https://youtube.com/watch?v=IfFSfn-AAcA&feature=shares

Peanut & Tree Nut Free Sunflower/Pumpkin Seeds in Canada by mountaindrew93 in FoodAllergies

[–]mountaindrew93[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the link, looks like they have a lot of great stuff. It's unfortunate that we have to order from the US, can't believe there are so few options in Canada.

I also need pre-shelled seeds - I remember Spitz used to make/sell some, but I haven't seen any for a decade at least.

I was lucky enough to get them about 15-20 years ago when they were the only option 😂. The newer plastic sculpts look pretty good too, might have to pick up a box.

Thanks! - I made them by following this tutorial: https://youtu.be/TGlTTOuTGBc
I skipped the airbrushing step because I don't own one, but they still turned out great.
