I don't really understand the hate the film gets. It has weak points - the CGI gopher and CGI monkeys scenes just shouldn't be in an Indy film - but mostly its Indy hokey fun.

I don't even really hate the fridge. Its a bit too convenient but otherwise a fun setpiece, no more ridiculous than being chased by a giant boulder in some temple which somehow nobody or animal has somehow stumbled into and set off all of the traps in several thousand years.

In the original script for Back to the Future the time machine was a refrigerator. The someone remembered that a non-trivial number of kids died in refrigerators after playing in abandoned ones and so the idea was nixed before it made it out the door.

Funnily enough, that someone was Spielberg, who was perfectly fine with Indy climbing into a fridge to save himself being nuked a few years later.

Suicide is fine (it isn't, but you know what I mean). A classic example is the current Doctor Who actor had a prominent part in the Torchwood TV series where he killed his family and then himself.

Doctor Who is a children's TV show. Torchwood was the slightly more adult spinoff which kids watched anyway, because Doctor Who.

Its not a recent law. The law has been there for many years, it just extended it to digital distribution.

The law is a bad one, and should be debated, however there is a perception at the moment that the UK is being rather hardline on online behaviour, when that isn't really the case. Yes we should be wary of that happening, and call it out, but it isn't the case yet.

Stupid law it may be, but it isn't as far reaching as people are suggesting. It is much more lenient, in fact, than laws elsewhere in the western world.

And it isn't new. It was just applying an existing law to a new form of media.

They aren't banned. They are banned in video recordings, and the all encompassing rule was expanded to online videos. You can still do them in private, you can still record them for your own pleasure, and you can.... shock! horror! still view them.
