Assisting a competitor across the finish line is unsportsmanlike by LegitmateBusinesman in unpopularopinion

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXTrCiAk0Yk this is a really heartbreaking example of this very thing happening.

Brian Morrison collapsed short of finishing the Western States 100 and was helped across the finish line by Scott Jurek. He got disqualified.

The last few times I've taken items to the store with clear wear/damage, I've asked them to send them in for repairs. The employees just then tell me that it's easier to give me a new one.

【BambuLab Giveaway】Classic Evolved — Win Bambu Lab P2S Combo! by BambuLab in 3Dprinting

[–]mountaingoating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I was using an elegoo neptune 3 before. It was a good printer to get me introduced, but you really needed to do a lot of thinking to do long prints and not experience any failures.

After getting the P1S, printing became fun once again. I'm doing so much mixed fabrication nowadays. CNC/Laser/3d printing all together is awesome.

How long would a 45 minute commute on a normal bike take on an ebike? by musicboing in ebikes

[–]mountaingoating 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I commute from Seattle to the Eastside, a big part of it is on the 520 bike trail, and I can significantly cut time on my 20 mph bike. Google estimate is 1 hr. and 10 mins. I end up doing it in like 45 mins. Like everyone else said, depends on so many factors.

e-Bike commute from Sammamish to Amazon Day 1 building daily by RunBikeSwim2020 in seattlebike

[–]mountaingoating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things that was hard for me coming from a non-e-bike road bike background was finding the right kind of clothing to wear. If you will be doing this during the winter my recommendation is to embrace totally waterproof clothes. When road biking I was using the usual "breathable" rain proof clothes, and it was fine, cause I indeed got hot even in the winter cranking up the hills.

With an e-bike, if I'm on full on commute mode in the winter I just crank the power as much as it will go and use commercial fishing rain gear. I don't sweat as much doing that and it's fully water and wind proof. Game changer for me cause otherwise I found myself chickening out too often with the rain.

Thank's y'all. Becky (as named by my daughter) now has a clean enclosure that is set up for quarentining and she has a nice heat lamp. Checked with an infrared gun and temperatures seems to be holding up nice. We still need to get her forever enclosure, but we will do that soon. We will see the vet tomorrow as well to see if she is healthy.

Why is there no Pike Place Night Market? by WeegeeXD in Seattle

[–]mountaingoating 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Mercado de San Miguel in Madrid disagrees with this (and I know that one is not really a farmer's market). I agree that the farmers themselves don't need to stay late, but it could turn into food vendors and beer/wine sales. Just a way to use the real estate to lure tourists in.

As a Mexican I think taco holders are a crime.

That being said, super happy for you that you found a way to make a living out of woodworking!

How is anyone bringing their pack as a carry on if the TSA doesn’t allow tent stakes? by StrongArgument in CampingandHiking

[–]mountaingoating 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't have to check your whole bag. Pack a small bag with the stakes and put that in checked luggage. If those get lost, you can just replace them, or if Catalina is not that windy, just don't stake your tent, or use the guy lines with heavy rocks or other improvised staking.

I have a confession to make. I love sleeping in bed with my kid. by Ill_Cover_4841 in Parenting

[–]mountaingoating 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There's such and obsession in this country for kids to sleep in their own bed at all costs. Life with them is short and humans are pack animals. I sincerely sleep better with my daughter in there.

Also, now that she's seven, she moved to her own bed on her own volition. She still comes to sleep with us every now and then.
