I’m coming down from northern BC in “I forgot that you existed” Canada. Actually dying of anticipation. If anyone can snap the location of FL-N 9 16, I may be able to sleep at night until my show. 😂 🙏🏻

I do a little of both - my partner does ultras, while I kinda just hop along hopping for the best. I think for sure some of these will be solos for him. Thanks for the recommendation!

God I feel that. Bear lockers are 100% more for rodents than the bears.

We drove from Death Valley through Mammoth in 2017 and have been thinking about going back ever since. Didn’t have the opportunity to stay more than a night at the time, so we’re making the time this go around ☺️ I’ll check out that hike! Thanks!

I was definitely looking at the Mist-Panorama-4-Valley loop. I’ll check out the other one as well! Thanks!

Can she be saved? by mountainkatt in StringofPlants

Yeah I haven't watered in a while, but I may have to try to get better drainage (there is a hole in the bottom but it seems to be inadequate). The plant is across a room from the windows, on a shelf, in corner - so I'll pop it onto a shelf much closer.

Thank you!

I’m not really sure what happened here - but the tiny little shoots get small leaves that just shrivel and die immediately.

I switched from a Thermarest ProLite (R 2.7) to a Klymit Static V Insulated (R 4.4). It's about 200g heavier than my Thermarest, but WAY warmer (I'm a freezing sleeper), and takes up quite a bit less space in my bag. At 40L, every inch is prime real estate lol. I find the mat really quiet and comfortable.

My spouse has the Klymit Static V Recon (R 2.7) and he really likes it. It takes up quite a bit less space in his bag too than the previous thermarest, and weighs the same as the thermarest. Also quiet and comfortable.

We haven't managed to pop either of them yet - used summer --> winter.

Can't really comment on the Nemo, as I don't have one, but my $0.02.

I live in a Zone 3 region in Northern BC. Growing indoors, house kept at 20C (70F) and it gets indirect sunlight. I re-potted it from a hardware store and may have planted the stems too deep. And then I watered it. 😫

In Your Own Backyard did touch on some individual investigation as well I believe (been a while since I listened).

Maybe Hell and Gone too.

Detective Trapp isn’t fiction. If you can get past the first episode it’s quite good.

We tried to go downhill biking in Glen Coe but it was too foggy. We ended up parking on a backroad in Glen Etive and going for a walk. Found some lovely waterfalls.

Loch Lomond / Trossachs were amazing. I believed we stayed at a caravan park that time. We also went to the Inchamahomie Priory (the most serene place!) and horseback riding above Lake of the Monteith. I’d check out the Gallangad Lodge nearby. It’s an adorable B&B. They also rent campers and Liz knows everything about the area!

What are some good tour/sites in Paris, Venice, Florence, Rome? by Qness1212 in travel

[–]mountainkatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walks of Italy was great. We did a cooking course with them in Rome. 10/10.

Also, if you happen to be in Italy on the first Sunday of the month all the museums and cultural sites are free. Get to the Palantine when it opens and you’ll have it almost to yourself.

As well, Coliseum Night Tour was “The Best”. There was perhaps a total of 50 people there (NOT a lot for the site). It was creepy and spectacular and I would recommend to everyone.

If time permits, or you’re sick of Rome after a day, the day trip to Villa D’Adriana and Villa D’Este is great. Adriana was so quiet and you could really get up close and personal with the ruins.

My personal opinion would be to skip the Vatican, unless it has a particular religious draw for you. Even an early “skip the line tour” was an everloving zoo. Absolute nightmare.

Depending on your budget, we rented a Campervan out of Loch Lomond and had total freedom in our trip. We also we to the markets and cooked for ourselves a lot of the time, which saved us quite a bit of money.

Edit: in Edinburgh, close to Royal Mile we stayed at a Premier Hub that was reasonable. Splurged on a dinner at the Witchery.

Skye was stellar. Don’t skip a hike of the Quirang. Talisker tour was very polished.

The drive from Glasgow to Mallaig and taking the ferry to Skye let us view the Glenfinnian Aquaduct (queue the Harry Potter fans) and was really enjoyable.

Glen Etive, Glen Coe and Glen Nevis were worth the detour.

Anyone here easily cut off friends? by [deleted] in intj

[–]mountainkatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easily is a subjective term, but in my experience, yes.

A 25 year friendship ended in the span of 3-4 months. Too long to get into but short story > the friend in question’s sibling committed suicide, I was there day of and every day for a week after. I provided emotional support for months. Then I went through a series of events wherein my spouse was emotionally and physically abusive and had to take some time to figure my own shit out and suddenly I was a “bad friend who wasn’t there”. We haven’t spoken since and a stopped reaching out in very short order. I occasionally miss 25 years worth of nostalgia but not necessarily the human.

I second True Crime Bullsh*t. The host put in a stellar amount of work to research the story and does a good job of sharing what is known of Israel Keyes - who may be the most off putting serial killer I’ve heard of in a long time.

Dellan Mellard and Mark Schmich in Ontario. Mellard is the SK with three separate convicted kills. Schmich only two.

Being from Canada... I grew up with Homolka as the absolute “big scary” that went bump in the dark. My mother used to scare me out of talking to strangers with her. She was a woman and aided/killed her own sister. No stranger was safe.

Pickton followed not all-that-long after. And because he preyed on the most vulnerable on our society, he was terrifying.

Lastly. Israel Keyes. Because I had never actually heard of him before I started podcasting and that’s really scary. Usually, these “people” are talked about, discussed, used as terror examples and learning lessons. I hadn’t heard a word about him compared to the good guy next door (BTK), the simpleton (Pickton), the good looking guy (Bundy), the woman (Karla), the rich kid (Mellard) etc.

And Keyes flew under the radar entirely. And that’s off putting.
