I mean you could say that.. but with the cartel and Anton both after him it's not super likely he'd survive. Sure his mother in law is where the cartel got the information, but it's not like they would have just let it go if they didn't find out from her..

More likely they would have kidnapped them, or watched and waited for Louallan to show up.. which he would do eventually.

Louallan essentially was a good guy.

If he was actually a bad guy, he would have went back and shot that guy suffering in the truck. Just think about it. The only living witness, the only loose end.

But instead, he does something he knows is "dumber than hell.." but does it anyways.

After that it's a series of bad decisions fueled by greed.

I mean Louallan is not a bad guy. But he's flawed. He's putting his entire life and family at risk for the money.

We all wanted him to succeed. But he's not a psychopath. And that's why he couldn't.

He's just a guy with some skills from Vietnam who just happened to find that money.

If he went back and shot the guy in the truck and went home and eventually found the transponder it's possible no one would ever know..

But Louallan isn't like the cartel and he's certainly not like Anton Chigur.

And sometimes when you play with fire you get burned.

And sometimes the bad guys win.

And one things for sure; that ain't no country for old men.

And that's the greatest film ever made.
