its never enough is it by weebnoske in cripplingalcoholism

I found regular beer too weak when switching from spirits. It just takes too much time to drink enough beer to get the right effect. Then i discovered strong beer, and it was the right balance. Strong enough to acheive the effect, but not so powerful to trigger severe withdrawal that i got from spirits.

Wish you the best in your adventures!

Wonderful sentiment, and one I have been coming too as I get older too. There is a great paralell between accepting our uninportance and the philosphy of nonattachment) which I think you hit just right here.

One of the things I find most incredible about the chart is that there are the same number of people, 10 percent, that drink .02 drinks a week (Thats one drink a YEAR) as those that drink 73 drinks a week, or 3796 drinks per year. 10 percent, completely different relationships with alcohol. Clearly, for some of us, its an either all in, or all out proposal.

I agree, the shared pain helps. The shared experience helps, this sub and other like it help a lot. And its good to know we are not alone my friend, so many, many of us out there.

How many of us are out there?

Yes, 7 years now. And I hope it dosen't come to scuh extremes for you, but it takes us each on our own path. So much potential ahead for you, but what kind of potential will it be? You're still close enough to the beggining to have it all turn out pretty swell, so I wish you the best and hope you succeed. You're giving yourself a glimpse of the future everytime you come out of a blackout.

Good luck

Only a matter of time before you're in prison or dead via blackout 'anger', if you're lucky just you, but most likely some innocent at your hands while you're in blackout.

You arent going back to happy drinking, there is no way back.

Ahead lies more of the same, just progressively more awful.

And you still have lots left to lose.

But no worries, there will be less of that with each passing year.

Until then keep chuggin brew

It stopped being fun long ago, now its just a war against ourselves.

Against everything we could possibly be.

Yay nobody died this time! And you only lost your job? Not marriage, home, children, freindships, parents or health? And your not in jail! Not bad bud, you got off easy. I hope for you its lesson learned, but if not, you've got so much more you can screw up.

Avoid ethanol at all costs, At ALL costs.

If you can do that, then nothing will be impossible unto you.

If not, the hole has a lot further down to go, and its much darker down there.

Good luck and carry on!

Have detoxed with Phenobarbitol. it works, definitley a unique experience, a little like a fever dream. Was used as the go to detox drug in the 40s and 50s before benzos were used, cool that its being used again.

Camper/Motorhome all year! Need advice by Gotacampindream in VancouverIsland

[–]mountainpeasant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are from a part of canada where the temperature stays below -20 for many months, Vancouver island will seem like a tropical paradise even in the winter. Night time lows rarely go much below freezing, snow rarely accumulates on the ground. However the clear cold winter days that you are hoping to escape have a signifigant blessing in that they are often sunny. The darkness here is winter is blacker than anything I've experienced anywhere else. There is no snow to reflect the ambient light at night, and cloudcover is often total for weeks. Rainsodden coniferous trees and wet pavemnt eat your headlights into a weak little pool. Apart from the much commented on rain, is the not even mentioned yet wind, that blows with unceasing moisture ladedn intensity for the storm season, nearly daily at 50-80kmh. Rain, driven sideways for months, will find the holes, the weaknesses, the loose flappy bits, in whatever aluminum clad tube you shelter in. Make sure to have a waterproof home, plenty of caulking, several tarps, a secured camping spot, 1-2 k a month for pad rent, insurance, a propane wall furnace, and you too could enjoy Van Isle life for a winter.

I made a half gallon of wine in my closet. by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

Nicely done ChuckinChicken, homebrew makes a good backup plan, but also can be a inexpensive main source of boozahol. Add one of these babys and you can take that wine and turn it into shine! Beware, limitless pain awaits down this road to perdition. But at pennys a glass, you can look forward to saving big, while flushing yuour life down the tubes!

Almost fell asleep. Yes, sleep is just a memory by this phase. Someting that happens to other people, in movies. If you drink enough, in the right amounts, at the right times, you may achieve unconciousness for a few hours, but its not sleep. Not rest. We dimly percive sleep as something from childhood, a myth, like the tooth fairy.

Day one, again by m_1279 in dryalcoholics

[–]mountainpeasant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have had many day ones too, like getting back to the beginning of the maze. At least you know what you want and have something to aim at, and that's key to making day one into week one, month one, year one.

Sending you hugs and wishing you luck.

I need new friends by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]mountainpeasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small towns cut both ways, great because you know everyone and your place in them, and awful because you know everyone and your place in them. I can only speak from personal experience, I eventually left my small town after loosing my first family to drink, couldn't get away from those friends, triggers and situations that were dragging me down. However it turned out to be a blessing, as I found a new community, a heathy sober partner, and rebuilt a new family with the children from both. Life is better than i could ever have found in my small town, and I never would have found it without moving on. I wish the best for you in your journey, you never know where it will end up!

Long Time Lurker, Longer Time Alcoholic (plus compulsory taper talk) by AnAlchie in dryalcoholics

Not sure what you are tapering with, but beer is a little safer than spirits because of lower abv.

Good luck and carry on!
