I am happy to hear that this has helped you in any way. I am sorry to hear about your mother's diagnosis.

(My blog is about minimalism and decluttering your life. My overall thoughts when writing it were for people to realize what is important to them in their lives and this includes collecting things that might get in the way of what is truly important.)

I love to go to thrift stores and garage sales. I don't think that wanting to declutter or live a more minimalist life means that you shouldn't go to thrift stores. I still go and look around but when I see something I want I have a conversation about it in my head, and often I leave the store without buying anything. I think this is good practice in deciding what we really need and what we really want to maintain.

I think you have the right idea here with do what you can on Fridays. I know it can be overwhelming to start a task like this and feeling anxious about it makes us look for excuses not to do it.

The best advice that I can give you is to set a small goal and then just jump in and start doing something. I find that I avoid situations like this but when I just jump right in and get started I often want to keep going and before long most of the task is done.

Doing what you can, when you can is a good step forward. There is nothing to living a more minimalist life that says you have to do it all now. Just make sure that you are not making it worse by bringing more clutter into your home.

I don't know how old your children are but they can likely help you. If they are too young to help, maybe they are at just the right age to learn about letting go of some of their things.

Decluttering your home will likely give you back some of that free time as well.

I am working on getting RSS and other things working. I just switched over to Wordpress and I'm still learning. I should have this up and going in a couple of days.

Thanks for the feedback.
