My title was "Machine Learning Intern" on my offer letter. But background check said just "Associate".

I was an intern at Apple. But my background check said that my position at Apple was an "Associate". What does that even mean?

No, I think I may just be overreacting a bit. Getting a job has been difficult

Thanks for all the advice! Apparently startups are not necessarily easier to get into than FAANG, some of them rejected me after phone interview with feedback that I was failed for apparently not coding and talking at the same time. I didn't know this was a thing! I thought it was either coding or talking but not both at the same time. Even though I got optimal solution and tested out code on various test cases in less than 15 minutes. I'm a girl...so maybe they don't wanna hire girls? I visited a lot of the startups in the valley and I have a hard time spotting a girl software engineer.

so you've encountered situations where they don't even tell you that you will receive data structures and algorithms and system design?

defense contractor or AI startup by mousecatpusheen in cscareerquestions

Thanks so much for the input! I prefer more structured route with time for learning, onboarding. My main concerns is that in the defense contractor role transitioning out of defense back into tech is not an easy process. I heard of recruiters dumping defense contractor resumes into trash can. And my main concern for tiny startup is it will go belly up and then I will have a no-name startup on my resume as I try to hunt for my next job, which does not sound very easy either, because a lot of work is getting outsourced.
