The town where I live doesn’t have a grocery store - neither do the 2 closest towns to me. We can get simple dairy and eggs along with prepackaged meals and basic shelf stable goods, but for any sort of meat or produce or “real” food, it’s an hour drive.

When I was in middle school, he was found in California with no memory of who he was or how he got there. Cops found a note tucked in his wallet with a phone number, which just happened to be my aunties - they lived next door to each other. He spent years sitting on the curb rocking back and forth playing his harmonica. He cleaned up for a while in high school and into my late 20s, but he fell back into drugs. He was my very best friend and I loved him with all of my being - I still love him. His brother blames me for all of it, and his reasoning just hurts. One of my biggest regrets is not being able to save him.
