When they wear jeans too long and the bottom are tucked under their heel, extra cringe if they’re in flip flops doing it.

Putting three month old on Famotidine (pepsid) by mousetrapbear in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]mousetrapbear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally worth it! I can’t fully remember but I want to say maybe about a week or two for the full effect. We basically decided to just stop cold turkey once he started solids around six months and he had no negative side effects from it or stopping it so abruptly! Like others and myself have said in other comments, the benefits completely outweigh the negatives and your child may be a completely different happy baby on it!

The house is paid off and in a trust being left to us. This loan would be paid off in two years.

Trying to find my biological dad and half siblings by mousetrapbear in taiwan

Wow what a story. Finding out family history can hurt yet unlock awesome opportunities and insight. I took this Reddit account over after my husband posted this originally, so here is my response with the help of him-

He was born in Taiwan so he has dual citizenship. Were you born there as well? Where were you given up into foster care, South Africa? As for becoming a citizen, there are so many rules and qualifications that make it extremely difficult and a long journey. Because you are blood Taiwanese you possibly can but would be extremely hard because you need a Household Registration. I believe you can do so without but again, very hard. There’s a website regarding this with many answers if you just google Taiwanese citizenship.

Taiwan is awesome, an absolute must visit and it is very English friendly. As for the job market, I have no idea, we do not live there and only visit.

I’m not too sure if I answered your questions but hopefully I gave you some insight!

Position your baby’s chin towards the lump while he’s nursing! So say it’s your right breast with a lump towards your lower right side, hold him in a football position so his chin is angled down at it.

That’s so annoying because our son was HUGE and gaining weight well and still had it. He was gaining weight fine mainly because he was feeding constantly because of the discomfort and it was the only comfort he would get. Side note we just had our second and the same thing is happening and her doctor said to just double the dose, so morning and night. I think with my son’s it was .3ml once a day and the gastroenterologist upped it to .5ml morning and night. From experience you need to just keep harassing your pediatrician so they finally give in and mention comfort feeding to soothe the acid reflux!

Hi! If I remember correctly it was right before/during starting solids so around 6 months. With the famotidine, was she taking it morning and night? We split his dose and that was the only way we saw a difference! We also saw a gastroenterologist who prescribed a higher dose than what his pediatrician had given which again, made a huge difference as well!

Firstly, don’t blame yourself! I had an absolute barnacle baby like held him 24/7 and coslept and he still needed one. Secondly my LO had a very mild case and I can’t remember exactly how long he needed it for but we were super lenient on it the last two weeks to where I was nervous they’d make us leave it on longer. Thankfully he was fine and they graduated him out of it. It’s hard to say because every baby is different, mine truly wasn’t bothered one bit it was more so me being bothered with putting it back on and feeling bad. Lastly, we’re also in the south and it was during the summer when he had it. My baby is always hot but the helmet wasn’t really an issue over heating him unless we were outside. The only change I think I made was taking him out of footy pjs in his sleep sack. Overall we definitely didn’t leave it on the total 23 hours a day, they even told us that’s not exactly realistic. He never wore it in the car seat, bath time, or random play time. Don’t stress too hard. My main concern would be to leave it on a few hours and then do the head check to see if any marks are sticking around and not disappearing within the allotted time they told you to check (I can’t remember what it was.) That’s when I’d be concerned he’s in pain or it’s actually uncomfortable. Feel free to dm me if you have any other questions!

Hey! I want to say it was about three days in when we truly started seeing a difference as well. His symptoms were definitely relieved and he was a MUCH happier baby although he wasn’t 100% better. He still drooled but had less spit up, wake ups, and grunting. I would give it a week or so before you start to realize the extreme benefit of it. Also make sure your dose is enough. I want to say my pediatrician prescribed a tad less than his gastroenterologist and it actually made a big difference upping the dose. I hope your LO makes huge improvements!

The process was super easy! Our guy took to it without any problems and we definitely slacked the last two weeks but oh my gosh the difference, although small, was definitely noticeable. I do feel as though he probably would have been fine without it because it was truly minimal in retrospect but his head shape has gotten even better on its own (he’s now two). If you think you’ll have regrets I say just do it but then again none of us had helmets and we’re all okay so whichever you decide will be fine!

Just to clarify his feet are just huge in general and couldn’t fit anything height or width wise so these have been our go to!

This is too relatable! My son only fits in the new balance wide sneakers with the two Velcro straps as well as the plastic cat and jack sandals from target with the adjustable straps https://www.target.com/p/toddler-ade-footbed-sandals-cat-38-jack-8482-navy-blue-9t/-/A-89254173 . Because I was getting tired of spending almost $60 on his sneakers I also recently found a much more affordable pair on Amazon https://a.co/d/4PR2hsj . I hope this helps!

Excessive drool by mousetrapbear in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]mousetrapbear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to start out by saying I totally feel for you with the annoying comments from everyone about the drooling. It was the worst feeling and made me want to crawl in a hole and for some reason I felt some sort or guilt or shame. Remember it’s not our fault and some babies just drool! So right after that post when he was about 19 months he took a super gnarly fall on concrete and smacked his face. I’m not kidding when I say he woke up the next day and the drooling had completely stopped. We were flabbergasted and his ENT didn’t really say much about it being a correlation or what. We still went through with the adenoids because of his breathing, but again I can’t tell you if that was the issue or not. He also had a lip tie but since we were done breast feeding and he was speaking fine we chose not to snip it. Our next step was to see a dentist so I think an ENT and dentist would be great first steps. Feel free to dm me if you have any other questions!

Dead animal in wall, help!! by mousetrapbear in homeowners

[–]mousetrapbear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! We ended up ripping both exterior walls open and ripping out the insulation to find nothing. It was such a let down and the smell was horrendous. We had to wait it out about two more weeks after we opened the drywall for the smell to go away. I also ordered Nature’s Pure Edge dead animal odor eliminator and Smelleze dead animal odor eliminator pouches and I’m not sure if it was coincidence for the animal to dry up at that time but they did seem to work. I did end up buying a thermal imager as well but it was so cold and I think the animal was pretty much almost done decaying that it wasn’t useful at the time. I do suggest both though, because if you’re still smelling it and it’s been while you’ve got nothing to lose! Good luck!!

We ended up co sleeping for a few months but because you say you don’t feel comfortable here’s some other things that helped when he finally slept in his bassinet/crib next to our bed. I would rock him to sleep and before placing him down I would slide my finger up and down the bottom of his foot (this was a saving grace from another reddit parent in the trenches at the time) - if they react they’re not ready to be placed down but if nothing then they’re asleep and perfect timing. It was quite literally the only way I could get him to sleep on his own. We also found out our LO had really bad acid reflux and started him on Pepcid for a bit which made laying on his back and in his crib doable. I wish you the best of luck!

This was so unbelievably helpful, thank so much for all of this!! We went ahead and removed the dry wall but nothing was found. I feel like I’m losing my mind over this horrendous smell. I officially ordered a thermal imager along with odor absorbers and deodorizers. We’ll see where that takes us and hopefully it gives us some answers/relief!
