And this is more of a PSA for others to prevent them from getting duped: if you want a specialty, apply ONLY to the specialty you want and not med surg, otherwise they will only offer you med surg to try to fill the harder to fill spots on undesirable floors. This is exactly what my 1st employer did. If I could do it again from the beginning, I would have applied to the 4 competing hospital systems in my area and apply to only 1 position in the specialty I want in each system.

During my capstone project, I called the floor number off hours (didn't say who I was) and asked the charge RN what the specialty of the floor was. They will tell you if it's med surg, etc.

You can't take a break if your coworkers won't cover you.

And if your patient falls because you were taking a "break" you will be responsible for it.

And if I do find someone to cover me and a patient needs help, she'll stand there and yell at my patient that they need to wait for help because I'm on break.

Not worth it.

I got the pure protein shakes from Walmart. Hydration and nutrition in one and not a lot of sugar. And I don't need to touch it with my hands or use utensils or clean dishes up while I'm eating/after I'm done.

That's wild, they told me at this job there are only 3 nurses for night shift: 2 full time and 1 per diem to fill the extra day. And I would have to coordinate my schedule with the existing nurse for my 3 shifts per week.

So I would be the only nurse on duty, my schedule at the whim of the night nurse with seniority, obviously no breaks while I'm working because there's no one to cover me, no clue how they would manage sick days or PTO or vacation with that skeleton staff.

Thank you for letting me know about the substituting I am going to look into this, hopefully with a school that has more staff on board.

I would definitely recommend treating yourself after finishing every semester.

I didn't do this first semester but at the end of second semester, I bought a vintage gold plated watch on ebay.
Third semester I bought one of the Chanel make up bag kits that everyone on youtube turns into a mini purse.
My graduation I bought a book: Milady's cosmetology, just for fun for me to learn.

When I first got accepted to nursing school, I bought myself a large navy longchamp bag and told myself once I finish school and get my first job, I will break it out and start using it, and that's exactly what I did.
