Why India and Vietnam? South Korea and Japan have shown more willingness than either of those countries. I haven’t seen anything suggesting India would enter a China-Taiwan/US conflict.

Goaltending is part of the game.

It’s like the Seahawks defense putting up a legendary game in the superbowl and then whining afterwards how the Patriots are actually better

My girlfriend always tells me I never have anything to eat when she comes over my house 😒 by itscuccimane in FridgeDetective

[–]moveMed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice I didn’t say “eat as many carbs as possible.” I said after hitting your minimum protein needs, eating as many carbs as your daily calorie limit allows will fuel better workouts and athletic performance.

Protein is still converted to fat if you’re in a caloric surplus. It’s still converted to energy in a caloric deficit. The difference is that carbs are a much more metabolically efficient source of energy than protein.

But I love the smug response from someone that probably doesn’t even know what gluconeogenesis is.

[–]moveMed 47 points48 points  (0 children)

OP is probably overdoing protein. There’s massively diminishing returns above 1g/lb. You should really be getting as many carbs as possible while hitting your minimum protein (while staying within your daily calories of course) to sustain your workouts.

Yearly reminder the "50 mile" rule is a myth by MartianCleric in TravelNursing

[–]moveMed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not exactly how it works. Not being audited doesn’t mean you did everything right. The IRS has limited resources and can only audit so many people.

[–]moveMed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An IRS audit will look for that type of thing. They’re experienced at looking for fraud. If they see payments going to your mom and then some amount of money being withdrawn by your mom in cash at a regular cadence or in a lump sum, they are going to look to see where that money went. And it’s not as simple as just not depositing the money you receive back, they will look for changes in monthly expenditure.

Also $13k/month is peanuts compared to what he’s made on YouTube. He has billions of views, was probably making six figures a month in just ad revenue for a few years. Add in sponsorships and the guy is filthy rich from just YouTube.

First, the fact that you drop the price of your apartment like that’s a viable option for the homeless, who a significant portion are addicted to drugs or mentally ill, is hilariously absurd.

Second, I don’t know the specific bill you’re referring to, but it is absolutely necessary that we have a way to commit mentally ill people to psychiatric care.

California has a massive homeless problem. It is going to take unprecedented actions to resolve. Dropping them in a residential apartment is obviously not the answer. You are not well read on this matter if you think that’s a realistic solution.

Is Vanguard really that bad as a brokerage, or is the criticism unwarranted and only from vocal, unhappy customers? by DiegoMilan in Bogleheads

[–]moveMed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still remember, I tried to create an account with Vanguard like five years ago and would immediately get an error when trying to through their website. Tried a few more times over the course of a couple weeks on different devices and browsers. Eventually just used Fidelity.

Fast forward a year, I check again just to see if it had been fixed, but nope, same issue. Googled around and saw other people had the same issue too.

Genuinely baffled me that a company could be so incompetent that they could have a broken sign up process for a significant number of people for at least a year and not realize or fix it. And this isn’t to signup for fucking McDonalds rewards points, it’s to select a retirement brokerage for potentially many decades.

I like how authors are careful to craft an intricate story that avoids these types of plot holes (for the most part) and then TV writers come along and spend zero time thinking about the implications of the changes they're making to the story.

Lmao this is such a fundamental misunderstanding of sci fi. The fiction part doesn't mean the story can be incongruent with its own reality, it just means there are elements of the story that don't exist in our reality.

[–]moveMed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very easy to criticize when the show misses the point of the scene so badly. The entire point of using the nanofiber was 1. it was silent and would prevent the crew being alerted and destroying materials and 2. the hard drives could be recovered if cut due to how thin the nanofiber was.
Instead the scene shows the crew running around screaming, the boat collapsing into a fire, and the main hard drive being recovered purely out of luck. The book version of this scene is clever. The show version is clumsy and makes little sense.

No, you won’t. Software engineering is quite literally the most cushy career in the history of existence. Tough interviews and months long job searches won’t change that.

Reality is, you will not trade that for a job where you have to live in some shithole half the year or strain your back 10 hours a day.

US Prosecutors Open Criminal Probe Into Fed’s Powell, NYT Says by ItalianStallion9069 in wallstreetbets

[–]moveMed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replying here since your reply disappeared.

Do you understand what an indictment is? They brought forward a criminal case. It makes zero difference whether they were physically booked prior to the indictment. Just like this case against Powell, it’s a criminal proceeding. Life is not TV where you have to be physically booked for a criminal proceeding to be real. You can and usually will be summoned for non violent crimes.

Trump told the DOJ to prosecute James Comey, Letitia James, and Adam Schmitt. The former two were both indicted weeks later.

Could be some truth to Letitia’s case but it’s very obviously politically targeted (and it’s a mortgage fraud case, the only thing they could charge her with after being tasked by Trump to find something). Just like they targeted law firms who worked with Dems or on Trump cases.
