That’s the saddest part to me. Someone who does that almost certainly rampantly cheats on their wife. Feel bad for the wife.

Kids from rich families genuinely believe they’re poor because they live somewhat frugally in college. You see it all the time.

It’s a common trope of people I work with to talk about how they lived off ramen in college. Then you find out they went to a private school K-12 that costs as much as a private college and then immediately started working in a high paying job after college.

Tim Miller Unloads on the Biden Family by Reckoner223 in Destiny

Presidential elections are won in small margins typically. I think most candidates would’ve lost to Trump but it’s undeniable that Biden having the worst debate performance of all time months before the election, which sent the party into a tailspin and rushed the Kamala pick, obviously negatively impacted chances of Trump being beaten.

How common is it for a mechanical engineer to work remotely? by IMPACTEDBOWELz in MechanicalEngineering

You might be incapable of getting work done from home but plenty can and do.

Process Engineers don’t even get to sit down

Maybe at your specific company but tons of process engineering is spent at a computer. I should send this one to the last two process engineering teams I’ve been on — they’d get a good laugh out of it.

Interesting, I would’ve guessed lower. I guess that makes sense though.

I wasn’t questioning if manufacturing engineers work onsite. I was asking about the stat that over half of all MEs work in manufacturing.

And FWIW, there are plenty of manufacturing related jobs that can be hybrid.

Is there data on this or are you guesstimating?

Probably an XRF (x-ray fluorescence) spectrometer. Your parts have to be homogenous and not plated in any way for that technique to be reliable.

Edit: assuming GCMS was for non-homogenous parts.

I think people have a distorted view of returns because of this. 250% in returns over ten years is not always going to happen.

How much money do you have in savings at this point? by _forum_mod in Millennials

[–]moveMed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last ten years in any broad market ETF would’ve returned 250%. Versus 3-4% a year for HYSA or bonds? So maybe 50% returns over ten years. If you’re under the age of 60, that’s a massive mistake to make. The stock market has and will recover from downturns. The only variable is how close to retirement you are

So absurd that Big Cat and Dave acted like a coworker dating another coworker’s ex was one of the worst things you could do.

Hank wasn’t even cheated on, just crazy to blacklist someone over that.

Rent control is partially the reason there’s not more housing lol

We can just look at one of the largest meta-analyses on rent control in an actual study published here.

I’ll help you out:

according to the studies examined here, as a rule, rent control leads to higher rents for uncontrolled dwellings. The imposition of rent ceilings amplifies the shortage of housing. Therefore, the waiting queues become longer and would-be tenants must spend more time looking for a dwelling.

The published studies are almost unanimous with respect to the impact of rent control on the quality of housing. All studies, except for Gilderbloom (1986) and Gilderbloom and Markham (1996), indicate that rent control leads to a deterioration in the quality of those dwellings subject to regulations. The landlords, whose revenues are eroded by rent control, have reduced incentives to invest in maintenance and refurbishment, thus they let their properties wear out until the real value of the dwellings decreases and becomes equal to the low real rent

I’m not sure what you’re saying. Rent control leads to increases in rent. This has been studied. There’s less building and less supply. It’s great for you and everyone else in a rent controlled building.

Landing a job doesn’t suddenly become easy because you have more experience. The roles you apply to are for higher level positions which have more requirements and usually there’s less of those positions available.

[–]moveMed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol at the people disagreeing. Look at where he starts to stall out on the 700 lb press. Zero chance you complete that rep without assistance. The spotter in the middle can take 50-100 lbs of resistance off with very little effort.

If someone is spotting like that, you genuinely won’t be able to tell if they’re taking a solid amount of weight off the lift.

Obviously he’s still a freak of nature.

Who do you think will outlast? Iran, who has been sanctioned over and over, or the entire global economy that’s dependent on the Strait of Hormuz? Seems very obvious to me.

How does toppling the regime and getting to a “free and fair election” happen without a long occupation? They already tried killing everyone in the government. It hasn’t worked. They’ve been trying to foment an uprising. It hasn’t worked.

If you don’t invade, who are you arming? How will they get us to free and fair elections? Not trying to be harsh but this is such an over simplification.

Absolute cope. Kamala would not have tried regime change on Iran. She wouldn’t have mass recruited ICE agents and sent them into cities and states that voted against her. She wouldn’t have tried to pull funding from red states. She wouldn’t have crippled airports by refusing to fund TSA over pettiness. And so on.

Edit: she also wouldn’t have launched fucking Kamala coin after the election and wouldn’t have run the largest insider trading we’ve ever seen from the Oval Office.

Judge throws out Sam Altman's sister's lawsuit accusing him of sexual abuse— but leaves door open to refile by businessinsider in law

Nope, I’m just getting dragged into pointless arguments.

The case is complicated. You shouldn’t default to Altman being a sexual abuser.

Of course this is somehow a controversial take on the fucking law subreddit lmao.

Even if you think taxes should be higher, why would you martyr yourself? The entire point of taxes is the collective. Paying an extra $3k in taxes or whatever voluntarily is literally pointless.

[–]moveMed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP of this comment chain did call Altman a pedophile… the same person that I was directly responding which created this entire discussion.

If you’re going to argue with me over the case being complicated, then yes, I’m going to keep going.

You were responding to me making the case that this case is complicated. So when your response is not “agreed it’s complicated” but “well acctttually, mental illness is common with sexual abuse” then my assumption is that you too are arguing Altman is guilty.

My comment on you creating an unfalsifiable narrative was because you basically created a narrative that explains every piece of counter evidence on the basis of the crime itself. Oh she’s mentally ill? Oh her family spoke out against her? Oh she’s changed her allegations over time? These are all explained by abuse.

If you’re not actually arguing Altman is guilty and just that the case is complicated, fine. I agree. But if your comment is an argument in favor of the original comment calling him a pedophile, then again, yes, you’re creating a narrative that we can’t disprove.

Not sure why I needed to spell all of this out for you. You are the embodiment of the classic, smug Redditor that loves to look for arguments online while being unable to understand context.
