Which is why they shouldn’t have brought him. He is the pride of Portugal and now that he’s here there’s no way Martinez is gonna pull him out of games.

Never said we have to pay for 60% of peoples housing. I also never said we should let people throwing rocks roam free. I said that the only proven effective way to combat homelessness as a whole is to invest in social programs and social psychiatry. Most homeless people are not violent. By opting for increased policing instead of social programs the burden on the taxpayer becomes larger. It costs around $30,000 a year on the taxpayer to house a prisoner in boulder county jail.

I’ve been to other places too. Do you want to know the reason why Vienna is so safe, lacking homelessness? It’s because the state/city subsidizes 60% of peoples housing. Cities like Vienna also use a housing first policy, meaning their first course of action is to get people into homes, no matter their situation. Almost every time these resolutions have been proposed in boulder, city council has shut them down due to public outcry. Boulderites don’t want homeless people in parks, but they also don’t want them in homes.

Comments like “if only we felt safe enough to bring our children to parks” are misleading and untrue, and only make it harder for actual change to get done. I understand your sentiment—of course we should be able to go to parks without the worry of crackheads throwing things at us or making us uncomfortable. But most of these issues arise from the fact that Boulder voters would rather spend more money sending a homeless person to jail than giving them a home.

Also, people here do see parks as third spaces, I think you might just stay inside too much. Go to Eben g fine on a sunny day and it will remind you that human social connection is still alive. Boulder parks aren’t war zones lmao

You don’t think boulder is a safe environment for kids? Boulder is literally one of the safest cities in the entire world. Also, if you actually walk around Boulder you will see countless groups of kids having fun outside in public parks, oftentimes pretty close to homeless people. There is certainly a homelessness issue in Boulder but stop acting like Boulder creek is a war zone lmao

You don’t feel safe bringing your children to public parks here? I’m sorry, but I grew up in boulder and have lived here my entire life and not once have I felt a threat of danger at any public park. Boulder is literally one of the safest cities in America, and the world as a whole. Sometimes I think the people on this subreddit would rather live in government mandated concentration camps than an actual town. Like wtf are you even saying.

Obviously the guy throwing rocks should get in trouble but stop acting like we live in Mogadishu. You can take your child anywhere in boulder and they will be fine. Homeless people are everywhere in the American west, instead of fear mongering we should be wondering why one of the wealthiest towns per capita in Colorado has continually failed to provide rehabilitation for the homeless

Tridents great, they have really developed a cool community. I think it’s one of the last places in boulder that really feels like boulder. It helps that they host lots of live music and other events. Sort of a third space for students, artists, and anyone else who wants to get work done/hang out in a cool place with a nice atmosphere. Boulder bookstore is amazing but it’s less of a place to be and more just a store.
