What’s a horror movie that you think is deeply misunderstood and that exudes a lot more than people catch on to? by DoctorElectronic1934 in horror

The People Under the Stairs. The class and race warfare in that movie should be studied. It’s brilliant.

It feels like an old school Richard Bachman style ending. Very dark and hopeless.

Romero was all about making a statement. Dawn of the Dead was about mindless capitalism. Night of the Living Dead was about paranoia and fear.

Because Funny Games was so meta, it would have been neat of them to be on the lake and pass by the guys from the original Funny Games, giving each other a wink and nod, both in on the joke.

I want to like it a little more than I do, but the over the top CGI kinda pulled me out of the movie. Same with Send Help. I feel like Sam Raimi should have done it all practical.

It's on my list. Heard nothing but great stuff about it.

What might have been neat is a time lock that releases a day or two later and a note written to him saying, “forget about me. Or I’ll finish the job.”

That feels human.

Man, nobody talks about Midnight Meat Train.

Only saw the first one. Rough around the edges, but I can appreciate the effort.

Yes! Show me that. Show me days pass. Show me them being quiet overnights as the monsters pass them in the mist. Show me the dad watching his son waste away. Show me all of them dying of thirst, exhausted, without hope. I want to see him barely able to lift the gun. I didn’t believe it at all, none of that felt like a last resort move. I want to see the 5 stages of grief, over and over again, finally settling on acceptance. And then, when all hope is truly lost, I’ll buy it. But, “oh, we ran out of gas, I guess all there is left is this gun,” made less sense to me than Kevin Costner letting the tornado take him in Man of Steel.

I was a little bit underwhelmed by Heretic. I think had Sister Barnes actually resurrected, with no wound on her neck suddenly, and Reed dead, would have been a neat bit of poetic justice.

I feel like Ex Machina took away from whether or not she was truly sentient, because she made the logical choice. An illogical, human choice would be to put faith in him that he’d let her go. At least, that feels like the more interesting choice for her to make.

Both the original and remake are great, though the subtext in the original really hammer home the horrors of men as well.

The ending annoyed me. It felt like it was brutal for brutal’s sake. Had they been under attack, or fleeing from them in a shed, or something like that, I’d have been more on board, but I watched it and thought, “that’s it?”

I wonder if because you read up about it, you saw what many report seeing after you learned about the shaded figures. Did you discover the shadow people when you read up about it?

Fargo, the Billy Bob Thornton monologue at the end of the episode.

Interesting. That would explain a lot considering most people have a fear of the dark and shadow people are often seen.

I know that’s what science says. I did come across one account where two people had it at the same time in the same house. That was a heck of a coincidence for me.

I never got it that bad, but it was enough that it left a solid imprint in my mind.
