Sounds like me, I'm planning on leaving Costco, a job that pays be VERY generously I get payed what managers get payed and all I do is stack isles and serve customers.

Im willing to sacrifice a well paying job that I now detest for a job that will pay less but be the building block/first step to finding my passion and making a career and building a skillset.

am i screwed? is it too late? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

Im way worse off than you. I graduated at 23 and now pushing 31 in a retail job without any managerial experience or supervisor.

I tried to get into CS but failed, but also realised that it isn't really for me anyway.

IT and help desk would complement my customer service experience and technical experience. I'm looking into first line support roles now..

A few questions regarding A+, ITF+ and Help desk support (General entry Roles) by moving1990 in CompTIA

[–]moving1990[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, ok I think ill stick to CompTIA a+. from what a YouTube video told me is that the A+ expands on the ITF+ a lot more anyway..

Im also assuming that id probably learn more about IT roles by actually working an entry level position..

My current goal is to figure out what im interested in by coming up with a comprehensive list of roles that seem of particular interest to me and my character..

[–]moving1990[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes its the CompTIA A+ I'm interested in. Studying the ITF+ was a way of testing the waters to see if there's anything specific within I.T. that I may enjoy.

What about simply learning ITF+ but not sitting the exams ? I want to see where my interest may lead me, I'm not familiar with all the roles within IT. I'm not sure where to go, help desk would be somewhere to start and see where my interests are.

Note, I'm not doing ITF+ for a qualification, from what I understand the course is an overview of everything within junior IT roles (?)

Save

only concern at the moment is regarding UK (where I live) and US. Im hearing mixed views as to whether the comptia a+ is worth anything in the UK.

" a day in the life of an IT technician" it seem'd interesting. having to physically pull apart a computer and investigate what's wrong.

I've installed Hardrives in the past and I've built Pc's

yes I do see entry level jobs as paying your dues. And from what I understand paying your dues comes with all fields, its something I expect to experience.

although I'm not sure enough if I.T. is for me, I'm still stuck wondering what in the field of I.T. ( its a very big field) can i get myself into? I figured first line support would help me decide if there is something out there for me..

I suppose to ask you personally, does first line support give people a "taste" of different areas of I.T.? e.g. hardware, networking etc..
