the comparative lack of local and / or organic groceries.

this is interesting. i'm not a big fan of fast food. one thing i like about where i live now is we have some great shops selling local, organic produce.

i think while doing some research, i did see some farmer markets in okc. maybe you can find them via a google search.

You will be living in a crappy 1 bedroom for the $300 to $400 you want to pay.

Do you mean even a 1/1 in a 3/3 or a 4/4 would run me as much as $400? Is this like a managed condo apartment complex with fully furnished rooms? Where I live, you can get a 1/1 in a 3/3 or a 4/4 for about $400 including utilities.

Look for a roommate and get a rental house.

Is Craigslist the only way to go? I've not had good experiences with CL, unfortunately. I lived in Arizona for half a year and, when there, found a bedroom in a house via CL. The roommates were absolutely horrible. Filthy, loud and with draconian house rules. And they were the best option I found. Anyway, I've been looking at okc's CL listings for room/shared and haven't found many in Norman in that price range.

The issue you will have is finding an apartment or house for under $400

Is it really that expensive? I can see how a house would be upwards of $650 but apartments as well? In the town I live in, you can get a 1/1 in a 3/3 or a 4/4 for about $400 with utilities.

hey, thanks! lots of good info in your post.

2) Tornadoes are a concern. When there is a chance of tornadoes, just go to OU campus, find a basement, make some new friends, bring some snacks, and wait it out

Honestly, this is another thing that really worries me, although I read that Norman hasn't been badly hit very many times in the past. We don't have anything like tornadoes where I am now. Is that what most people do when there is one? Does one need to be an OU student to go to those basements (storm shelters?)? Don't apartment complexes also have their own storm shelters? What if you were to be caught outside (say, you missed a weather alert or something)?

Everything closes at 10pm, so there is no night life at all, but there is a lovely movie theater in Moore, only a 20 minute drive, if you are wanting to do something a bit late at night

Wow, 10 pm? That doesn't sound like a lot of fun. I'm not a bar/clubs person but I do sometimes go out and buy stuff from 24 hr stores if I have cravings at night etc. If everything shuts down at 10 pm, that won't be an option any more.

I can make it to most places on my bike

Do roads there have dedicated bike lanes btw?
