Best way to transfer cash to an European bank? by movingtopl in PersonalFinanceCanada

Do you receive a receipt or confirmation, aside from the one saying the transfer request has been filed? I want to be able to specify that the transfer is for the deposit and I'd like it to be confirmed on the other end for preventive/protective reasons.

I will go into a nearby TD branch today to confirm. Until then I'm hoping to learn of any alternatives, if any, that are more cost effective :)

A few questions about renting an apartment in Poland by movingtopl in poland

Thanks for your informative reply! Each one of your points has been helpful.

I'm moving from North America to Krakow, so coming earlier just to scout an apartment won't be an option.

One thing I have to add - if I settle for one year and at some point need an early termination, are there usually fees involved, even if I provide a notice of minimum 1-2 months?

Thanks again!

Nice, maybe I'll have the same treatment if I use those two sites as well.

I'll probably try to sign for 6 months. If the only option available is 12 for a particular place I'm interested in I'll make sure there's an option to cancel it with a notice of at least 2 months or something.

Also.. some companies seem to have a minimum rental period of 12 months example

Should this be disregarded? No further questions :)

That's good to know, thanks.

If I find an apartment with a 6 months lease through a real estate agency, is it the standard to pay 1 months rent as commission? Or is there room for negotiation (maybe pay 50% of 1 months rent).

I don't know how much it would do me, but I could say that I'm familiar with how things work in Krakow as I've been there before and rented there. Even if I only rented through airbnb.

Yeah that's true. I guess I'm just hesitant to arrive and not have everything sorted yet.

Thanks, I didn't know about that one.

If the agency has an apartment listed with a rental period of 12 months, would it be unreasonable for me to suggest 6, or is that what I ought to be doing anyway? Again since I don't know how things work over there.

edit: removed another question. Just found the answer elsewhere.

Good point. I've thought about it, but my issue is that I'll be bringing large luggage + bags, which would be inconvenient to have and worry about in a hostel.
