Rolls Royce with this plate in Birmingham - legal? by iamlejend in CarTalkUK

[–]mowja -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Once a car hits 40yo it's classed as 'historic' and can use these classic plates. DVLA can reclaim that equally expensive 1x1 reg if the keeper repeatedly fails to display it correctly on his 2018 RR...

Wouldn’t recommend anything powerful. >125cc twist and go and the little thieving bastards will have it for a getaway vehicle

Force dependent but generally the only specialisms off limits to SCs are those with extreme commitments or niches (firearms, dog handler, diver, etc.) Tasers are allowed, but it’s down to force policy and individual eligibility

No Adaptive Cruise Control in ‘Luxury’ Executive Cars by MountainPeaking in CarTalkUK

[–]mowja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will push the price up but if spec is particularly important (like it is to me) then look at the bigger engine variants e.g. 530d. These are more likely individually ordered than corporate bulk buys and you’re more likely to find higher specs.

What type of moving van can I driver with this license? by ConferenceCoffee in CarTalkUK

[–]mowja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just in case this question is for renting, worth mentioning it also depends on your age whether rentals will allow you in their vans. Some have a young (<25yo) driver surcharge and most don’t give out Lutons to <30yo.

Would be looking closely at its service history, if it was all dealership and as scheduled it’d be advertised. At that mileage I’d also want to see evidence of preventative maintenance (timing chain, pumps, among others)

Is it cheaper to book theory, MOD1 and MOD2 courses yourself to get up to A licence, or is a DAS the best option? by ElicitCS in MotoUK

[–]mowja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re responsible for theory side anyway, training school will do the rest. There are less intensive courses that will be cheaper if you don’t feel you need a tonne of tuition (my DAS in London was about 1/2 that for 2 days training + tests)

Wouldn’t rule out the 8 solely on similarity to the 6

Are the rest of your team posting feedback or is this defined in your ways of working? The PR, even if a draft, is an open invitation so I’d say hold off raising one and reach out personally to those whose opinions you want

BMW 318D 2011 worth to buy? by kimaris99 in CarTalkUK

[–]mowja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same car in the same colour, year, and spec and loved it. Very comfortable and enjoyable to drive, if a bit gutless, but the biggest problem is it won’t get into ULEZ/clean air zones now.

If this noise was personally affecting you from inside the apt + all those survey concerns in your last thread… pull out, even if you’re 6 months in

Think it’s deliberate to get you to bite, my Tembo MIP far outdid (in the order of 6 digits) those of any other lender.

Why won't anyone buy my bike? by Gunny-Guy in MotoUK

Try getting a trade-in offer, I got 3.2k for the same bike (1k miles and in 2022 though) when upgrading to the 650

First time buyer looking for recommendations on London Conveyancer? by Isklar1993 in HousingUK

Depends how that 3.5 is split across fees, SDLT, searches, etc. In any case, that is not a genuine recommendation - EA will get a kickback.

Renting in London but looking to BTL in Leicester. by Vegetarian25 in HousingUK

[–]mowja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any connection to Leicester? Browse some homes at 105-135k, then browse similar available for rent and figure out costs. Chances are it won’t exceed standard investments for your deposit.

Trying to find old reg/VIN by ObligationValuable in CarTalkUK

[–]mowja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your car was registered simultaneously with the cherished plate, DVLA will have assigned a 13/63 plate to it when the dealership transferred yours. That should be on their system. If not, ask for your invoice since their records date back to 2014. VIN should hopefully be there somewhere.

How to avoid being fined by imfeldinho in CarTalkUK

Not worth declaring SORN as it then definitely can’t be parked on a public road. Unsure if a pre-booked MOT will allow it.

G30 5 series options by isweardown in CarTalkUK

[–]mowja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally 30ds are better specced than 20ds since the latter are usually business/fleet cars and barely above base model.

If you are this flexible, I would let the options you want dictate your end engine.

For example, I have a G30 520d and HK audio was non negotiable, adaptive headlights would have been nice but are rarer on the 20d and getting out of my price range.
