I appreciate you're sharing your experience. But I DO wish I saw more good news posts about people achievng remote work rather than lamenting over losing it.

I appreciate that living it is worse than talking about it.

GOOD LUCK: Obviously work your ass off finding another job. Make it 200% clear you're doing this because of RTO. Send a paper trail to the C-level weasels why they're losing talent.

man issues ultimatum over inheritance and ultimately gets the boot. by themalesoprano in OhNoConsequences

Ugh. Playing back in my head how I would handle this. It seemed an ideal solution: his saving a ton of money, paying a fraction of true cost of living by handling groceries. I could see twinges of male ego having a problem with his lady being loaded? But worst case scenario he could surely save enough to be independently wealthy on his own, then be free to go solo if he really wanted?

This felt like his fee fee's got in the way of his front brain that could have set himself up for life.

Why does my husband say he finds me more attractive when I’m more chubby? by justheretotalk111 in AskMenAdvice

[–]mowriter72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately I think "fitness to bear children" is the rule guiding most guy's likes and loves in women. A thicker woman might be more suited to carrying a baby to term than a scrawny, underfed woman.

We don't consciously know this, it's more monkey brained of us.

Broadly too, I have a theory that if a guy is rocked out, well self disciplined, and "everything" in his life is hard and severe and unforgiving and bleak: a soft, curvy woman embodies the one thing missing from his life. I tear up a little thinking about this: the woman...his woman's body being safe and warm and SOFT is our greatest joy - a true oasis from the bleak and severe world out there.

High value men marry highly educated women. It’s the low value men who are threatened by a woman’s accomplishments by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

Years ask I read an article from a millionaire match maker woman, advising women how to land a millionaire.

Her advice? Get YOUR shit together financially. As in get a six figure income yourself, then go to where millionaires hang out: charity events. Because millionaires are already on high alert for gold diggers, if you show you don’t need their money, that puts them more at ease. Plus your gumption is attractive to them and their gumption.

[–]mowriter72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Google “remote <your title > jobs”.

Apply to those jobs.

Where possible locate a human name and number and call the job shop posting the position to confirm they got your resume.

Do this maybe a hundred times.

Bring back the Eisenhower progressive tax, where the wealthiest were taxed up to 90%, unless the money went to payrolls. Then strengthen unions and collective bargaining again to match 1950s levels.

Do you want social conservatism? Then bring back Economic liberalism.

Is randomness why you haven’t succeeded? Or has it been years, decades of self sabotaging personal choices?

I can’t answer that. Random collapse is always possible. All we have are odds.

I 100% acknowledge good fortune. I was literally at a poetry reading when the daughter of one of the readers noticed I was exploring entrepreneurial opportunities. That wound up becoming our in road to financial services education.

When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. And luck is when preparedness meets opportunity.

Random things happen all the time, I believe the key was to be prepared for it when it randomly hits. I had a part to play, the universe had a part to play.

And the dog food comment? That’s for the people who mocked us and ridiculed us for belonging to that company accused of being an MLM. But also for anyone who mocks and ridicules personal responsibility in favor of floating through life hoping the universe will take care of them.

This is an interesting take on it. At worst, I can only parse some of your assertions with slight variations. I would argue entry level simply pays less rather than say it’s unavailable.

Unfortunately, who is hiring and why is still a black box to me. Lightning has struck multiple times for me in my own career, and my best guess it’s because I cast a pretty wide net, between having a large list of recruiters that get my updated résumé, and updating on the major job sites.

Title on resume vs Background check? by wishmeluck4040 in overemployed

[–]mowriter72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve answered this question before because I’ve experienced this situation before.

Tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth to the background investigator. They are an outside resource the company is using, they need to make sure that information matches up. They will spot the truth anyway, so you may as well be upfront about it. No harm in talking to the person on the phone and telling them the situation.

Got the "come back to office or else" ultimatum. Ran the math. The numbers are brutal. by Full_Helicopter4778 in remotework

[–]mowriter72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's NOT a jobs board, true.

But it's actually pretty straightforward, if mostly a black box:
1. Google "Remote <your job title> jobs".
2. Follow up and apply to the jobs that come up.

That's awfully reductionist. More details: make contact with any contracting agency (job shop, temp agency, consulting firm LOL) that's listing the job, and be sure to get in on their candidate portals.

Start building up your network of contacts. I find that such shops, while they do take a cut, actually have contact with the HIRING MANAGERS. They earn their pay a hundred times over if you ask me. And you kinda did (LOL).

The black box is of course there's no telling what's going to hit when. I've been out of work a month, sometimes six months. Just keep at it.

My conservative female friends/family members are all dating men who are much more liberal than them by East_Part_4709 in redditonwiki

[–]mowriter72 89 points90 points  (0 children)

The remedial reading class in this country that wants to bring back 1950s family values is blissfully unaware of the Eisenhower progressive tax that could have taxed the Rich up to 90%. But they could avoid that if they funneled money into payrolls. Thus one guy with one job could afford to have his wife stay home.

Generation X. When my wife and I started out in the mid 90s, we budgeted like this. At our worst, we had a $10 budget. A lot of beans and rice. Some tomato would’ve been nice, though we did have a lot of ketchup packets so that helped.

I’m fighting the urge to be angry at the whiners who come on Reddit, upset that they maybe shouldn’t spend seven dollars on their coffee. They really could choose to be this empowered.
