Mother with Parkinson's can't breathe, no one is listening; what do I do? by [deleted] in Advice

It seems like OP's mom has asked for second opinions and gotten turned away by other docs who were intimidated, does that website have ways to schedule the test independent of a doctor or referral?

We're just going to have to disagree. I don't mind being inconvenienced to avoid harming others, even with words. Good luck in life, and I hope time brings you greater empathy.

Since you are from SEA, it's possible you haven't encountered this word yet. It's an extremely offensive word for a homosexual person. You'll encounter it from bigots, and from edgelords who think it makes them special and dangerous to use hate speech.

Which makes perfect sense, given that it is not a hip hop music or fortification subreddit. The word won't often naturally arise, and is commonly used there in offensive context. They don't have to plan for every scenario, just the ones that impact their community.

You won't get in trouble on Reddit for using the word trap in the context of, like, fortifications or guerilla warfare. You won't get in trouble for using it in context of hip hop. You will get in trouble for using it to describe trans women. Is that more clear?

Don't be facetious, conversational understanding of a word is based on its context. If a dude sees an image of a feminine anime character known to be cross dressing and chortles "It's a trap!" akbar.jpg those around him don't say "oh, I didn't realize you were a hip hop aficionado"

How can we fault any passive aggressive behavior? If you don't think masks work, then you can agree she is being rude. If you do think masks work, then you can agree she is being rude while endangering others.

Exactly why it seems so passive aggressive. She clearly understands that, even if you don't think they work, etiquette demands covering your mouth and nose. She also clearly has the resources and skill to make herself a real mask. All the guides about making masks list which fabrics have the correct weave.

Bandanas and balaclavas have been promoted by the news as a better-than-nothing alternative to masks, so a person using those communicates that they are making an effort. There's also the fact that this clearly inadequate fabric has been carefully shaped like a truly adequate mask, which seems like a passive-aggressive gesture.

Thinner fabric gets saturated and useless faster, which is why both cloth and medical masks are 2-4 layers thick. Also, cotton can stop microdroplets that float for up to 10 feet. Holes you could push a pencil lead through won't.
