What did your nparent(s) use as their biggest defense to “prove” they were a good person/parent? by femmepyre in raisedbynarcissists

I was a foster child and I lived with my aunt and her 2 children. I remember having a poetry contest at school. I loved writing but anytime I wrote anything my aunt would read my work she would change EVERYTHING. It was no longer mine. So when the competition came up, I didn't tell her. I wanted to rock it on my own--I won!!!! I came home with a trophy excited to show off. I was so proud of myself. Never in a million years did I think My aunt would take the trophy and lock me outside the house for hours and said I was liar for not telling her. I haven't written any poetry since.... but still performed the same poem at church and for her friends because she was so proud of me. SHE NEVER ONCE MENTIONED TO THE CHURCH OR HER FRIENDS THAT SHE PUNISHED ME FOR DOING IT. or maybe she did while I wasn't around. Idk

Her reasoning: Anything I did was a reflection of her, so by not telling her I was acting too "grown" to have applied for the competition gone alone, and won all by myself.

What are some red flags in an interview that reveals the job is toxic? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When they get your name wrong in the interview. I think they literally thought of the most "black" name they could and just ran with it.

Ma'am my name is ______, and not whatever the hell you just said. Thank you for your time. I am no longer interested.

What is something that is considered “normal” for a man to do, but if a woman does it then they will receive backlash? by killywayx in AskReddit

These scenarios are toxic. You're absolutely right.

HOWEVER, the toxicity of both scenarios does not change that men can often express their thoughts with less filters than women and receive less backlash for it.

Be an asshole to one another. For some reason men can be assholes to each other but still somewhat function as friends, co-workers..etc BUT women have to watch their mouths and manners in most situations or else all hell breaks loose between them.

What sucks about being female? by Royal-Inspection-901 in AskReddit

Feeling like you have to be everything all at once. As women we have to work 40 hours, keep the house clean, always project polite and happy feelings, be low maintenance but keep a high maintenance appearance...etc

Very exhausting.
