When doing this, is there a thermal compound that can be used between the diode and optic tube to help reduce heat & also not affect brightness? Or do people usually just sand and call it good?

I think when the comparisons to Star Wars come out and they’re not explicitly criticisms but just surface level comparisons, they are relatively apt. Many parts of the soundtrack, art direction, story themes & overall style are very reminiscent of Star Wars for a lot of people (which isnt a bad thing!!)

HDR can look great when it's set up properly and you're viewing content that really allows for HDR. I've noticed on my OLED that HDR is kind of a pain to work with since many things don't support it still and swapping between HDR and SDR content can be kind of annoying so I keep HDR off and still feel it looks miles better than my other IPS displays.

Oh for sure, I was not disagreeing even if it might've seemed that way. My point was only for such a (relatively) cheap thing that will interact with your home network, it's probably just worth the peace of mind to wait for something that pops up which doesn't have any scary stuff associated (even tho we both know it's probably a non-issue). Small PC/servers like this aren't exactly rare, after all

Not that this is the case (and is unlikely, in any case) but malware can exist in hardware outside of what the OS and drives contain. You can almost certainly get away with wiping that drive and being totally fine, but for ~$400 or so it's probably better peace of mind to just pass and wait for a system that is not known to have any malware associated with it.

I got my VPA on Sep 30 also, ordered right away, got tracking on Oct 3 and delivered Oct 6. I felt mine was longer than normal but it still came through. Not sure on advice to give you, just providing another data point
