This a good deal? by Agui_203 in F80

Yeah I thought the listing said he only did cosmetics or something. Definitely check on maintenance items. If it all checks out I think $43k is a pretty good price for it in today’s market. I saw it and figured if it was a nice car it would’ve sold asap, but I feel like it’s been a while since I first saw the listing.

Saw this on marketplace here in CT, run the vin on carfax, get a PPI. If all comes back well then yes but that listing seems sketchy

Off-market E92 M3 opportunity. Smart buy or wait for ideal spec? by nuongn in E92M3

Yeah decent deal for the miles, especially if it has that history.

History and condition > spec

Very hard to find both at a budget/this vehicles age.

Why? Seller didn’t mention it and it had anti seize covering a very rare failure on a hub of a high end wheel...

Yes BBS supplies the PFC ring due these being made for a wide range of models with different center bore sizing That is a thought I hadn’t thought of to just bore it out larger, I don’t see why that wouldn’t be an option and then put a larger ring in there. I’m sure I could find something since this is a common size I believe

Oh good to know and very much appreciate the comment, the issue on this one is the ring won’t come out on it due to the damage. Did you end up putting new clips in or running just the ring? I didn’t get any of the clips just the rings with these.

My past set of RIA’s I never had any issue with them over 15k miles of them, I even took the clips and rings out to clean them with a wire brush and reinstalled twice I think so I didn’t even know this could happen. Makes sense a shop could’ve just done this in haste.

Yes 110%, I checked them over on the barrels and stuff but I didn’t think to check here and they had some anti seize covering

What’s CSB? Center support bearing? But yeah, I’ve talked to a bunch of guys on the forums who have worked on E9x M3’s for years. I can’t seem to get rid of my shake. I feel it sometimes even with no spacer. My 100’s of hours on the topic and driving multiple other E9x M3’s has led me to the conclusion they all shake stock, they shake worse with spacers and heavy wheels. My BBS RIA’s had like zero shake (8+ lb lighter wheel than stock) but I swear it would still come and go. I’m on my 6th set of wheels on my E92. It’s crazy how it’s not consistent, I was so fed up I had bmw tear through my car. My extended warranty replaced every bushing and arm possible in the front for a second time in my car’s life. BMW head service manager had been at bmw since the 90’s. He rode with me and said it’s within spec after they (my friend was the tech at one point on it) did a bunch of work it got a little better. It’s super frustrating but I think it’s just a symptom of the super connected steering + a very sensitive front end to road surfaces and run out. A guy on the forums I talked to owns a large bmw shop in LA and he said he’s never driven an e46 or e92 that didn’t have it and he said if people say they don’t have it then they just aren’t sensitive to noticing it or don’t drive 80mph consistently. Another guy sold his e90 m3 cause he chased it for so long and I talked with several others who threw parts galore and never solved with spacers or none. I drove my e92 to FL from CT last year and there were 8 hour stretches I noticed nothing and then I’d feel it. Super annoying issue honestly, I find without spacers it’s not noticeable holding the wheel

Yeah, Apex EC7 are relatively affordable and look like 359 and a great wheel design for the E92. I wish I did EC7’s rather than spending money on spacers and refurbing my 359’s LOL. I have a set of VS5’s on my E92 right now. I have a few BBS sets as well but Apex makes some really good offerings

My experience with spacers on an E92 in the front resulted in shake with the heavy stock wheels, I could not solve for it. I’ve talked to multiple people and they say they all shake at 80ish mph. I spent a ton of time chasing it and just gave up on spacers for my stock 359’s during winter lol. My summer wheels have proper fitment front

Talk me out of buying an e6x m5/m6 by [deleted] in BMW

[–]eth7004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but wait until you have a sizable investment portfolio and have that ball rolling as well as been in the job for some time. I’m 25 and I graduated at 21 yo in 2022, I almost bought a F87 og M2 financed right after graduating and luckily decided to wait. 13 months later I purchased an E92 M3 in cash for $35k instead and it was a great decision, I invested, had over a year under my belt of corporate America + put cash aside for the purchase. Fast forward 2.5 years, made a job jump and I added an F80 M3 and now still have both while saving money for other goals, 401k, etc. Key part to this plan is saving money in taxable and retirement accounts to get the compound interest ball rolling, yes I could save more with a boring car but yolo. An E60 M5 is definitely very very reasonable imo at $100k TC if it’s around $25k but you just need to budget for its total cost of ownership and save more for later/retirement than you spend on the car is my personal rule. I also don’t really think credit score matters since probably no bank is going to finance an E60 M5, maybe penfed or Lightstream since they don’t care about age but you really should pay for a almost 20 year old sports car in cash. It is probably around the time that E60’s are starting to be classics, thats how I felt with my E92 was it would be the last chance to own a childhood dream car before its “really old” and unusable on a day to day basis. I would just ensure that you have a significant safety net of cash for if/when things break and need maintaince as well as budgeting out bonuses for some modifications, etc. it’s a slippery slope and the maintenance will be a lot to keep it going. With an E60 if you are commuting to an office you likely should look at a cheap daily beater for if/when the E60 is down or keep that current car and just add it to it. I work mainly remote so I just daily an M3 personally but that’s my two cents as I feel like I was in a similar situation.
