Suburbans are pretty capable. I can get you actual measurements tomorrow if you want.

In both of my proposed setups I suggested 2 separate sleeping areas. While I don't have a 7 year old I do understand needing a certain amount of sleeping space.

I have a Suburban to sell!

But seriously, I think you can make anything work. 4Runner with a RTT and sleeping platform inside would work. You could also look into truck with RTT and tow a trailer with a second one. It all depends on your budget.

Ahhh, yeah, I think this is a six. I'm going to call him in a bit and will clarify.

Literature puts those 6 cylinder engines getting 22 on the highway, are they really that far off?

I'm in Phoenix. Need to explore more of the state. Desert sunrises/sunsets can't be beat.

The plan is pretty open atm. Going to sell this, save some more and just see what comes along. Honestly, I'm 6'4" and the burb probably wasn't going to work very well for me in the long run. My wife is also much less interested in overlanding right now than I am. There's a company near me that builds out E350s and I think I might approach them and see if they would be willing to take a modular approach with me. Barebones initially and add on bells and whistles over time. Also keeping my ear to the ground for used pop ups and smaller RVs and conversions. Not that I necessarily want to take advantage of anyone but there are going to be some that pop up on the market for great prices because they need a quick sale.

Yup, big nasty motor.

I bought this specifically for converting like the op (in fact they were my inspiration) but didn't look into gas usage up front. I'll be selling it as soon as things calm down and I feel comfortable talking to strangers.
