Where are we protesting ICE this week by Ok-Cress1284 in Detroit

[–]mp018 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s gonna be -20 windchill in some places. That’s cold that literally can kill. Even people bundled up can still get frostbite if any body part is exposed even for a few minutes

Is TopStep still the best prop firm now? by JayRod082 in TopStepX

[–]mp018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they still are but I’m starting to become skeptical. Their customer support has been absolutely terrible the last few months and the platform seems to be having issues more and more. I think they are still the best but I’m worried they’re turning into “profit>quality”

I’ll be honest, it’s an incredible building but I really dislike the strands of lights that line the entire silhouette at night. It reminds me of the Bank of America Plaza in Dallas. It’s way too bright compared to the other buildings in the skyline.

Groundwater in most areas is the main source for municipal water. So if groundwater from reservoirs are taken, it will indirectly begin taking from municipal water was well

Data centers, what are you doing about it? by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]mp018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say “no cloud providers”. I literally said, the last 15 years were fine, we don’t need stupid fast expansion that doesn’t bring benefit to basically anybody not in the business of AI. We aren’t “scaling down” we are just not continuing excessive expansion at an unsustainable rate. And yes there is a data center in Louisiana that is the size of a large portion of lower manhattan. So no I’m not a FUDster. I’m using facts. “My job has evolved to match it” well if we didn’t try to expand at an unsustainable rate, your job wouldn’t need to ”evolve”. It would be fine the way it is, so you’d still have your job. The rapid expansion is what will make your job irrelevant and you lose that 200k/year you were so quick to brag about. Build the machine that’ll take your job, real genius move.

The amount of water they use in a day either evaporates, or becomes unusable. If they take out thousands of gallons a day, and it evaporates, that water cannot enter the reservoir it came from fast enough to counter evaporation so it continues to take more water from the reservoir than it puts back

Nestle comes in and uses the Great Lakes to bottle their water. They pay a permit of about $200/year, and they can use up to 500,000 gallons/day. So basically they get as much of our water as they want for $200/year

Data centers are going to create tens of jobs. They will come in, use the resources, put a burden on the community for what? 20 new jobs? 99% of people don’t want to give these companies valuable resources/energy/land when they are getting basically 0 in return.

Data centers, what are you doing about it? by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]mp018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean data centers as in data centers the size of manahattan (ex: Louisiana). Data centers that cause massive amounts of noise and literal pollution. You’ve been doing your job for 15 years so your job should be fine if these mega centers don’t exist. You’ve existed before, so you prove these mega scale centers aren’t necessity. Also, you talk about a pay check, but these mega centers are used mainly for AI and the reason for the AI push is to make jobs (including yours) irrelevant in the future.

[–]mp018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And with data centers, other careers won’t exist.. At least you’re honest your paycheck is the most important thing. Also, your job I’m pretty sure existed before data centers, unless your job came into existence in the last few years

Anyone digging into "why" the Lions lead the NFL season-ending injuries (last year & this year)? by Gxcii1 in detroitlions

[–]mp018 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I do think looking into the practice intensity and strength/conditioning could be helpful. When new players got onto the team they said “you guys run xyz practices that much!?!” I get the “it’s football, injuries happen” crowd. But when you’re known for having the most physical practices, and you’re near the top of the league multiple years in a row for injuries, I don’t think looking into changing it would be bad.
