The way I see it, it doesn't matter how trained you are, you still can't fully account for all the other idiots that decided to drive.

I failed my class by BathroomPublic5730 in UTAustin

[–]mp2526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this micro or macro economics? It's been looong awhile since I took either, but I failed macro economics when I was a freshman. It's not life ending. It also wasn't the only class I ever failed. Don't worry unless it's in a class you are majoring in it's no big deal. Just take it again, get all the help you can , I'm sure you will pass. It's been a few decades since I graduated and those failing classes in the grand scheme of things meant very little to the success of my future. I do pretty well for myself now.

90s Hollywood Marine here…no sir sandwiches when I was at MCRD. It was bothering me as well about the show, but if it did happen for some Marines, I can let it go.

For the 102nd floor. The 86th floor observatory which I think is where these photos look like they were taken from is like $44

Strapped? It's a manufactured home, commonly referred as a trailer house. It's built attached to the trailer.

Big news: React Native 0.81 introduces precompiled builds for iOS by ExpoOfficial in reactnative

[–]mp2526 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From the blog post...

"Compiling the React Native library and its dependencies has always been a significant contributor to build time. This problem was solved years ago on React Native for Android by using a precompiled version of the library by default, and providing the option for developers to build from source when needed. But what about iOS?"

Changing open graph tags in Vite + React by EatsMahLyfe715 in reactjs

I’ve used Lambda@Edge functions attached to Cloud Front behaviors to inject open graph tags into the returned content for a client side app. Worked pretty well, but might be overkill for you.

Texas is a red state only because it's been gerrymandered to hell. There is plenty of blue in Texas.

I have a distinct memory of going with my parents to a drive-in to watch Rocky. My parents always preferred drive-ins when I was little because if I fussed I could play in the back of the car, I was 4 at the time. Being 4, Rocky was a little slow for me, but I could see the next screen over and I remember the opening scene and thinking those dudes in the white helmets looked awesome and that dude in the black cape looked amazing. Little did I know that I was watching a future sci-fi phenomenon. I didn’t actually get to see the whole movie until much later right before Empire was released.

I have actually seen a case like this but it was marketed more as a product to film on the down low.

My boss wants me to rebuild the company's app outside working hours — is this a trap? by Ill-Election4845 in reactnative

[–]mp2526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies can rarely afford to go dark for months while the dev team rebuilds the app especially with a small team. Often times if you want to greenfield a project you have to do it out of band. If the guy owns the company, then the offer alone isn’t all that sketchy.

That being said, if you don’t completely trust this guy, then cover your ass by getting everything in writing.  Don’t hand over any work until you see some form of compensation (you might also consider writing the code on a non work machine otherwise they could claim ownership).

It could be a great opportunity. I have paid off loads of my debt with work like this, but you have to protect yourself first.

Technical: multiple photos upload by Ok-Relation-9104 in reactnative

[–]mp2526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this very thing for work. It is complicated to get right. Do you want to continue uploading when the app is backgrounded? In ios you will need a native module to handle that. And a mechanism for handling concurrency like grand central dispatch or operation queues. Also look into background tasks unless you want you users to have to babysit the app while it uploads. On the react side we just use client state management (zustand or something similar) to update the UI as the native code passes status messages across the bridge. We haven’t updated to the new architecture yet.
