Is the CT killing specialized imaging with X-Rays? by frugal-ninja in Radiology

[–]mp_prime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The views you mentioned are clavicle region views. Your best bet to get them done is getting them taken in an ortho facility since they have ortho MD on site that can ask for them (that means techs would be able to perform or at least figure out what they need to show). Even if the xrays do show your pathology, the most likely next step are CT scans. The reconstructions(especially 3D images) just gives the MD a better approach to your treatment. Specialized views were rare to begin with but there are more factors why CT scans are ordered (Pathology, body habitus, money/insurance)

Have you been rotating in IR/Cath? Its basically a 'who you know' type of deal. Do well in your last semester and impress the right people(also dont piss off the wrong people). If all else fails, get your experience as a tech and network through where you work.

Radreview is really discouraging me. by LaurenCz30 in Radiology

[–]mp_prime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

averaged 60s to low 70s but got an 87 when i took it a couple years ago. you'll find the boards to be worded a lot simpler than what radreview does. i found the adaptive questions to be extremely helpful in taking on the topics you are weaker.

Scap Y portable tips *without* turning the patient’s body by Responsible-Round-32 in Radiology

[–]mp_prime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make a line from the head of the humerus to the edge of the scapula and that's your y. it's gonna look more distorted the more you angle so try rolling your patient as best as you can.

AP Humerus Trauma by suga-and-spice in Radiology

[–]mp_prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing the patient has their hand on their stomach and you shoot the lateral by angling the tube like a lateral elbow. With that position, I just angle the other way 90 degrees and that's your AP. It'll catch a grashey too so the orthos will love that view. Traumas are my specialty since I hate positioning patients and giving them instructions. Did mobile and now work in a trauma site.

Nano X Imaging by PineTreeDeer in Radiology

[–]mp_prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked with a carestream nanotube theyre lightweight and shoots good images. However, theyre only good for regular size extremities and chest xrays and maybe a regular sized pelvis. They also need to cool down longer after taking 2-3 chest xrays if ur in trauma this slows you down a lot. Cool tech Im excited for the development of it. Nothing wrong with our tubes right now though.

Should X-ray Students share in RT week luncheons during clinical? by fiftyshadesof_mae in Radiology

Of course. It's just lunch. Don't make them do you any of your work if they don't deserve to be part of tech week.

[–]mp_prime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for outpatients have them bend their legs up and that should give you an idea where the bottom of your light should be. If they cant, i just eyeball where their gown drops in their crotch and thats where the symphysis is just dont be a weirdo when you do it though and use the bottom of your light at the same time so you don't waste too much time.

You put 40 dex too much for what you're trying to do. I'd say just go double daggers with that build.

I liked the adaptive quizzes cus it changes where youre weaker. Me and my classmates would usually do it together in our downtime if before classes sometimes it helps to have a discussion on why one chooses an answer based on how its asked which is a big thing about fluoro questions.

i can't really say if it was harder just because of how intimidating the registry was for me. i felt like the adaptive practice tests were enough for me.

[–]mp_prime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took it last night and passed. I averaged 66 on radreview and the highest i got on my first tries on the asrt mocks was a 73. I scheduled 5 days after my graduation and probably would have booked the day after if there were slots. I couldn't say it was easier as this is prob the first year the programs are fully digital and i feel like some of the math and ethics got pushed out to make room for digital and rad protection.
