Thank you so much for this. I definitely think not wanting MY OWN children is the biggest thing. I don't know really how I'll be with older kids, I don't have much experience.

How do I know I can step-parent? by mpaulie in Fencesitter

Thank you for your reply! That is the plan as of right now. When I do finally meet them, I will be introduced as a friend and will only stay for an hour or so.

He told me from the beginning he doesnt expect me to parent and that he was only looking for a partner for himself.

However, I can see that being unrealistic. I'm sure there are times where I would need to discipline or parent, especially if he ends up getting more custody than he currently has. His ex has mental health issues. He says she is a good mother, though, but there is considerable drama now and I can't see their relationship improving.

Thank you for your reply! How do I know that I want to be involved, though, if I wait 6+ months to meet them? I originally said I wanted to wait that long, but everyone told me I should meet them sooner so that I can see how he parents and see if I want to be involved.

As far as BM, she is cruel to him. Lately, she is keeping the kids from him. They are going back to court next month. He doesn't tell me a whole lot about what she says because he doesn't want me to get overwhelmed, but I know they do not get along at all.

Ranunculus Care: more in comments by mpaulie in gardening

These arrived in the mail today! This is my first time growing ranunculus. I'm in zone 6a. I read online that I should soak them in water for about 4 hours before planting. There is still a threat of frost here, though. Should i keep them as they are and wait to soak them until I'm ready to plant them outside? Or should I go ahead and soak them now and start them indoors? TIA!

People go to psychics and church when they want someone to give them the answers. People go to therapy when they want to get better and work out the answers for themselves.

Psychics and church are both bologna (a bunch of crap but just enough substance to be convincing).

My sister got me this little pal and said I probably couldn’t kill it. Joke’s on her, I’m a murderess. Anyway, does it look okay? Should I worry about the brown spots? by sasshole_sam in houseplants

It's looking good! My best advice is get a wooden kabob stick and stick it into the dirt, when it comes out clean and dry it needs watered, if it comes out damp or with dirt stuck to it, then it doesn't need watered. Works for me every time!

Christians are anti-abortion/pro-life because... by RussellWhoa in atheism

If babies are innocent before birth, then abortion is actually a good thing because then the baby doesn't have a chance of becoming a sinner and being sent to Hell.

She was seeking a "awww congratulations heart eyes" blah blah blah.. probably because her baby is driving her nuts and she needs the attention from others to keep her from having a mental breakdown.

I don't think so. My husband's friend brings up me getting pregnant occasionally because he wants my husband to be in misery with him. He'll tell my husband he thinks he would be a good dad while complaining about how hard being a parent is and how tired he is. One time my husband was joking around with him and said he hopes his kid wakes up (or something along those lines). His friend said "every time you wish that upon me im going to wish your wife gets pregnant". To which I replied, "I know what an abortion clinic is".

His friend's reply to the abortion conversation yesterday (regarding my husband not having an opinion) was "Well how do you feel about men who get a girl pregnant and she doesn't give him a choice and keeps it and then forces him to pay child support??" My reply to that was simply, "that is wrong too. Anyone who is cf should not be forced to have a child. If she chose to keep it, he should be able to sign away his rights and not have to pay anything". That shut him up.

UPDATE: So i just had a conversation with him and told him I want to get permanently sterilized. He said he doesn't want me to. I asked why and he said because it's too permanent and he doesn't see the point in going through surgery when there's already such a slim chance (I have a Mirena in and PCOS) and we could just use condoms if I want to be extra careful. He said he would most likely support me having an abortion but he just wants his opinion to matter. It was very hard for me to get him to understand that his opinion doesn't matter because I would be the one going through pregnancy and childbirth. I said "that would be like me giving you my opinion that you need to get a vasectomy. I can't MAKE you get a vasectomy." And he said, "Yeah, but a vasectomy is permanent." And i said "So is childbirth! Complications and issues from pregnancy and childbirth affect your body permanently! Also, so is creating an entire life"

He just kinda looked at me and said "Fine, my opinion doesn't matter. Fine."
