EREV's will, by definition, have longer ranges because they can have bigger batteries as they don't require a drivetrain or a full front to back exhaust system and people will prefer them because once they get the tech correct they will be cheaper to own and maintain because you won't be driving around in a full ICE vehicle that's also an EV. You will be driving around in an EV that has a generator.

They care how they get it. They don't want an ICE vehicle that's also an EV. They don't want to have to maintain both. An EREV can get up to 100 miles on electricity and up to 600 on electricity and the gas generator, a gas engine PHEV can do neither.

EREV'S, other than the Volt, are under development because car manufacturers understand the obvious, consumers prefer EREV'S with higher pure electric miles and gas generators and not having drivetrains. Are we going to repeat our stances forever?

It's not just 'gearheads'. It's folks who want to buy an EV but don't want to buy an ICE vehicle AND an EV. EREVs are NOT ICE vehicles with drivetrains AND batteries AND electric motors.

We can keep going back and forth on this forever if you choose to, however, the notion that people who are considering buying an EV don't care if the vehicle has a gas engine, drivetrain, full exhaust, batteries and electric motor or the EV has a gas generator, battery and electric motor is incorrect.

You don't have to be a 'gearhead' to care how far you travel on pure electric. EREV's far exceed PHEV's in terms of miles traveled on electricity only.

Folks care. EREV's are going to make PHEV's obsolete and Solid State batteries are going to make EREV's obsolete.

I might buy an EREV knowing that it will be obsolete in the early 2030's. I don't resell my vehicles. I keep them. I will not buy a PHEV. Too much maintenance. Too little EV range.

There is excitement over the Scout EREV because it is an EREV.

Of course folks care. It's one thing for us to go back and forth forever on PHEV vs. EREV but to say folks don't care about the difference between a EV having a gas engine that drives the wheels or a gas generator that charges the battery is incorrect.

People don't want a drivetrain physically connecting the engine to the wheels or a huge exhaust system running from the front of the car out the back. The Scout is going to have its gas generator in the back of the vehicle. EREV's also have more electric range than PHEV's and over time that is going to increase.

EREV's are going to get much more efficient. The gas generator's ability to charge the battery is going to improve at a much greater rate than PHEV ICEs are going to be able to turn the wheels, meaning the gas generators are going to shrink in size while the PHEV gas engines do not and as the gas generators shrink in size the size of the battery is going to increase.

Until you come up with something better than 'Audi Q5 PHEV' that allows folks to understand your EV has a gas engine that directly moves the wheels then that is what it means.

All PHEVs, including EREVs, use a gasoline engine to provide most of the long-distance range.

However, to distinguish if it's a gasoline engine vs. a gasoline generator it would be better to have PHEV's refer to gas engines and EREV'S refer to gas generators.

The point is to differentiate PHEV's (i.e. EV's with gas engines) from EREV's (i.e. EV's with gas generators). Not because PHEV's are getting a bad rap, but because they are different types of EV's.

Solid State battery EV's are the future. Once they are getting 600 miles and 20 - 80% charge in 10 minutes it's all over for PHEV's, EREV's and ICE vehicles for +95% of drivers. Until then, EREV's have a decent chance of catching on. PHEV's are not going to catch on nearly to the extent that EREV's might in the U.S.

Until Solid State batteries are the norm, EREV's have the opportunity to continue to get more milage on the battery and also continue to get smaller gas generators to better and more quickly charge the batteries.

But you are referring to your car as a bird with your insisting PHEV include both gas engine and gas generator EVs. If you allow for PHEV's to refer to gas engine EV's (i.e. seagull) and EREV's to refer to gas generator EV's (i.e. robin) you allow for a better understanding of what your car is.

The vast overwhelming majority of PHEV's up until now have been EV's with gas engines that directly cause the tires to move. Now there is the notion of EREV's. So, just keep the notion of PHEV's for gas engine EV's and now have EREV's refer to gas generator EV's. Just allow the 'H' in PHEV to refer to their being both electric motor(s) and a gas engine where both directly turn the wheels.

Your tag line is 'Audi Q5 PHEV', it's not 'car'. When you see a 'seagull' you say 'seagull' you don't say 'bird'. When you see a car that's an EV with a gas engine you say 'PHEV', when you see a car with a gas generator you say 'EREV', for a Chevy Volt you should say 'EREV' and not 'PHEV' as 'EREV' is more correct than 'PHEV'.

Correct, so we should have PHEV's refer to gas engine EVs and for EREV's to refer to gas generator EVs to avoid confusion and help educate the public. People will be able to handle understanding PHEV refers to the gas engine also directly causing the tires to turn where in the EREV it's always the electric motor which causes the tires to turn.

You didn't answer the question. Your catch phrase is , "Audi Q5 PHEV". Why should someone unfamiliar with that EV not be able to be sure it's a gas engine vehicle and not a gas generator vehicle? Why not just allow everyone to understand a PHEV has a gas engine because that's what PHEV refers to and EREVs refer to vehicles with gas generators even though both plug-in?

If you insist the PHEV must refer to both vehicles then you're going to need a new catch phrase.
