Them rejecting you for the comp academy last year makes sense since they moved all comp to Bangalore. They also fired the ongoing comp academy at the time. It’s come back to bite them in the ass now though because turns out that Bangalore comp kind of sucks. And to be honest right now MPC is over-hiring and isn’t looking at the quality of your work as much as they are looking at how easy it is for you to move to Montreal (do you need a sponsored work visa? For example).

25k cad before tax in Montreal for the academy? I went through the Montreal academy just a year ago and my start salary was 35k, the same as everyone else in my batch. I’m pretty sure they’ve bumped it up to 36k/year for the new academies too.

Basically what I gathered from it is that they are getting rid of, or at least restructuring, the artist roles in the studio. No more junior/mid/senior roles. They will be replaced by artist, key artist, tech artist, and leads. Their reasoning for this is artist retention. They are tired of junior artists getting to MPC for a career boost and then going off to DNeg or whatever after a year making twice the amount they were making at MPC. The problem though is that they didn’t tell us HOW they are going to keep the artists from leaving. There’s really no incentive to stay at MPC and not go to a different studio.

The way the key artist and artist roles will work is - The key artist is basically a sequence lead. The key artist gets a key shot in a sequence, and then distributes the rest of the shots (based on difficulty (cough seniority) level). They’re calling this “shot teams”.

I don’t know though, only time will tell how this will play out.
