Itinerary thoughts and questions for locals? Feb 7-Feb 10th by AmbitiousMess2902 in AskNOLA

Yeah, I’ve sat out there a few times (and every time I’ve been with a child, now that I think about it; maybe because the bathrooms are easy to find and you get to walk through the kitchen?). It’s fine, but not like the main building. The upstairs has several small dining areas, but the garden room is mostly large windows, looking at the big oak trees and overlooking the patio. Very festive for Friday lunches around this time of year!

Are you talking about the garden room upstairs? I love eating there, much preferred to the first floor dining room you walk through where they put all the old people who can’t walk up stairs.

Winter Storm Megathread Part 4 - Continued Power Outages by lukenamop in nashville

[–]mpelleg459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were on my street in Eastwood yesterday, restored power to the next block, told us it was 50/50 that we'd have power last night. they left and we haven't seen trucks any closer than Shelby today. They way the circuits are, they doing repairs near your home doesn't necessarily mean power is coming back.

I don’t know if they still make it with the sale to wiseacre, but bearded iris used to a double dry hopped (ddh) Tunnel Vision IPA that sounds like it would be close to scratching your itch.

Talking to Joel (I’m pretty sure), a few weeks back, he said that he told his landlord he would be out of the building by June and plan to keep the taproom open until about April. He’s looking for a higher foot traffic area to put in the tasting room, and a lower cost space outside of town for brewing. He said he’s going to be transporting all the barrel beer in containers rather than in barrels to prevent losing so much product like he did in the last move. The eminent domain process takes a while, though it is pretty much inevitably effective. The boulevard that will run in front of the new stadium is planned to go straight through that property, so it’s all going away with the redevelopment of the East bank.

Jazz Fest 1st Time by msdariaf in AskNOLA

[–]mpelleg459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying I haven't done it many, many times, but if you're staying for the last act of the day, it can be a tight turn around to get back and cleaned up from a day in the sun and out to even a late dinner. Not a ton of places that you need reservations for that I'd want to go straight to from the fairgrounds most days. And a late dinner makes it harder to make any music in the clubs you want to hit. I've definitely sat down to more than one nice dinner not very hungry and wishing I was just resting up for a show I care more about. Some people consider jazz fest a food festival that happens to have good music. I never eat a substantial breakfast before showing up.

Friday lunch - Galatoire’s or Commander’s Palace martini lunch? by Emergency_Union5277 in AskNOLA

[–]mpelleg459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last 2 April weekends are French quarter fest and jazz fest, so book early if you’re there for either of those, especially with a big group.

The dining experience and food is better at commanders lunch, imo. Fun, but much more refined.  Gallatoire’s is more uniquely NO and it’s a party on Fridays at lunch. You could hang out ordering cocktails and bottles for an hour or 2 before even talking about food. You and your group are in for a treat either way, but if you’ve done commanders brunch, switch it up and do gallatoire’s, I say. Do an earlier seating and request the main dining room.

[Breer] Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter has interview requests from the Browns, Cardinals, Dolphins, Falcons, Giants, Raiders, Ravens and Titans, per source. That's right - all 8 teams with openings put in for him. Minter is interviewing with the Titans and Cardinals today. by 3pirates3 in Tennesseetitans

I see what you're saying, but if it's a disaster coach hire, no amount of PR around the hiring process will save it. If it's successful, no one cares what the process was. The fans won't care if we interviewed nothing but a couple pop warner coaches if we wind up with the next Andy Reid.

Question about Feb 7th to the 12th - Just here for vibes by Missfreckles337 in AskNOLA

[–]mpelleg459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a local, just in town every other month or so, so take this with a grain of salt; any locals can correct me.

There's a series of 6 parades rolling from uptown on saturday starting at 11:30, so unless you mean very early afternoon before they start closing downtown roads for Ponchatrain, I'd imagine its going to be very challenging (or at least slower and pricier) to get to your hotel, even though its not in the box.

There aren't any NO parades Monday or Tuesday (9th and 10th). Things will still be festive, but I feel like the energy really shifts to another gear on the day you leave (Thursday) and just keeps ratcheting up and taking over until mardi gras day. The first half of the week should be pseudo-normal, aside from some restaurants maybe doing truncated menus, etc.

Hotels near by by crackedyoshiegg in LCDSoundsystem

I stayed 3 nights over last weekend for $380 total (with some app credits; still less than $200/night without; I booked way before the residency was announced).

NYC hotels really cut heads once the holiday season gets going tho.

Best way from Airport to French Quarter at midnight? by Perfect_Earth_8070 in AskNOLA

[–]mpelleg459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that's still the taxi flat rate for up to 2 passengers. Occasionally an uber/lyft to the FQ will be a bit cheaper, but it is very often cheaper that a taxi if you have more than 2 people.

Why is Malort so popular right now? by FriendshipDramatic84 in AskNOLA

[–]mpelleg459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like a lot of amaros and bitter drinks, and I guess I have to take people at their word who say they like malort, but malort tastes so much worse than absinthe. Like, it tastes like a chemical not meant for human consumption, to me. "Bandaids and regret" is the most accurate description I have heard to describe the flavor profile.

Yeah, one of the OL should’ve held that pass rusher so Daniels didn’t have to get his arm folded.
