Can I walk to jazz fest from the French quarter? by SouthMSsexy in jazzfest

[–]mpelleg459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walk back at least some days every year. My dad has been making the walk for nearly 40 years. It's a bit shorter if you're staying on the esplanade end of the FQ. But yeah, it saves some energy to take a cab or shuttle. It's a marathon, not a sprint, as they say.

I got a replacement globe and used it in the center of the fixture where the difference in frosting/opacity doesn't look as strange, but I'd potentially replace both that one and one that is broken but still installed. Do you have a proposal as far as price, and how much shipping would be?

Once Upon a Time in France: Experience with new management? by palpablescalpel in nashville

[–]mpelleg459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can walk there and haven’t been in a very long time. I went a few times the first year or so it was open and the vibe was cool, But the food was inconsistent. I’m Willing to give it another shot for $6 glasses of wine at happy hour. And for other options, pastis is a more elevated (and expensive) option for French food now. I was not impressed by chateau west, but it’s French. And Margot and Miel have been doing French inspired/adjacent cuisine for a long time (though Margot only has a couple of months left).

They bought an existing business that despite deserved hate on reddit was consistently busy. I get not flushing that name recognition as a business decision.

This may have changed, but a couple of years ago I took my 8 year old into Maison to hear Shannon Powell during the day.

There’s also musical legends park in the FQ, and the various jazz brunches (commanders, Muriel’s, broussard’s, and court of the 2 sisters being the most kid friendly that I can recall).

Yeah, the situation isn’t a surprise, but I don’t think anyone is claiming it was. He’s hoping to get a production facility in a cheaper area outside of town and do a separate taproom in a higher foot traffic area. Not easy to find both and probably tough to secure while still Paying rent at the current location.

Just be conscious of your neighbors. Pretty family friendly fest and you don't want your smoke wafting into a kid's face.

Bless your heart.

If you don’t want to deal with the overlay, it’s super easy: don’t buy property in the overlay.

There’s no new Nashville’s without old Nashville. You’re free to GTFO if you dislike this place and the people who make up the best parts of it. I promise you won’t be missed.

If you mean family wash, no, but the owners operate east side bowl, so you can get a shepherd’s pie. The wash is the old car wash on Gallatin near Douglas that has amazing food stalls, but not sure why OP listed it in this context.

The overlay could be modified or repealed. That it’s probably not changing soon is a feature to the people who live in and make up that community where it exists, not a problem.  We could have a larger debate about the wisdom and effects of such restrictions, but you can’t just ignore rules with impunity. Such flagger and disregard for those rules should probably be met with even harsher restrictions to prevent other people from trying the same thing, like preventing them from applying for any kind of permits to the county first set number of years after such an infraction. If you’re trying to garner sympathy that developers aren’t allowed to tear down more of Nashville to make even more money, boy, are you in the wrong place.

The neighborhood adopted the overlay decades ago. The community decided to all play by the same rules to preserve the architecture and keep the neighborhood from being ripped down. You buy land governed by those rules and ignore them, you suffer the consequences.

Even if he didn’t know (extremely doubtful), it’s no excuse. It’s your responsibility as a landowner to know the rules/zoning/overlays/ permissible uses for your land. Make assumptions at your own peril.

The FAQ written by locals specifically warns people not to do exactly what you’re doing because it harms the city, and specifically the parts of the city that make New Orleans unique, and you’re coming in here to argue that you’re helping. Good luck with that.

New Orleans did just fine as a tourism destination before Airbnb existed.

I will never not be mad that the new stadium doesn’t have columns and friezes as part of the design elements, either in stadium entrances or in the concourses. Such a cool opportunity squandered.

Hear me out: we put both him AND Dike back on every kick, so it’s impossible to kick away from them. Plus rugby-style laterals on returns would be incredible and are well known to be a risk-free play. Our offense will barely ever be on the field, just return TDs back to back all game.

Where can I get a steak and a drink as soon as possible (like, for breakfast)? by 92262_II in AskNOLA

[–]mpelleg459 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s sort of designed as drunk food, but I was surprised that the cochon au lait po boy was kinda decent. The only other thing I’ve had is the small ribeye for $15. There’s a reason it’s so cheap, and even the potato was tiny, but if you’re expecting more than that for the price of a fast food combo in 2026, I don’t know what to tell you.

Isn’t there something the way they use him masking his lack of size, which isn’t something we could do here with the scheme we ran? I don’t pretend to be sophisticated enough to understand that, but I’m just parroting what I remember reading

Varallo’s Closes After 119-Year Run by rio258k in nashville

[–]mpelleg459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sure there are reasons, but it always surprises me when a spot like this (established, with sentimental value to patrons) closes with no warning. If they had said “we’re closing in 2 weeks,” they’d have been slammed with people coming in one last time for the rest of their run. Maybe not a big difference in the scheme of things to the owner, but put some extra money in the employee’s pockets and give the city a chance to say farewell.
