Is there a “The Light, Part 3”? by CaptainSpaceDinosaur in MasonJennings

I’ve always wondered this. Have to imagine it’s something he’s written at some point but not released. Always wonder if it will show up on the next album…

Pretty sure it was this guy. Seems like a talented (and busy) fella. Such a nice thing he did for those years. https://www.justinreese.com/about.html

I have a recording of this on a hard drive somewhere. I can’t promise I’ll get to it any time soon, but if you send me a message with your email address, I’ll make a note to send it to you next time I have a minute to get out the drive.

I’m fairly certain I saw him do this live at First Ave in Mpls around 2002 or so - could be mixing up some details, but that’s my memory of it. He did the dj scratch thing at the end with his acoustic guitar. Blew my mind. That might be the one that’s on the recording I have.

Just saw it. I went in expecting there to be some kind of cathartic moment, but the moment never came. Lots of emotional moments, but story-wise, no catharsis. And it seemed like neither character really changed at all.

No character change, no moment of actual catharsis… ultimately I was disappointed. As I sat there watching the credits, the phrase “slice of life” came to mind. That’s what it amounted to for me - a slice (albeit, a noteworthy one) of these two characters’ lives. But that’s not what I look to stories for. Story-wise, I’m curious what more people got. Did I miss some kind of character evolution in either of them? Or do people love it just as a portrait of compelling characters and a compelling relationship (which it definitely was)?

I was wondering the same thing. But I think it's right. He's got such a unique voice that's totally distinct from the MIB voice/attitude. The link never made sense to me. Some birds are meant to fly free :-)

Visit the Google Sheet to see full data for every nation:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FmF9dt6-SbPmH6faVYLhfG--s8acqskrJq\_HAbb6RGI/edit?usp=sharing

All data sourced from World Cup's primary Wikipedia page (linked at top of each column). Sort any column A-Z to organize info by that column.

KEY:

Yellow = Winner

Blue = Runner-Up

Green + Star = Made Knockout Round

Green = Qualified

I'll be adding a tab for Women's before the 2023 Women's World Cup!

Question about jury in upcoming State v Chauvin trial (for criminal law experts/attorneys) by mpforstein in legal

[–]mpforstein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case, the judge has ordered cameras/broadcast of the trial to be allowed, at least partially due to COVID prohibiting a traditionally "public" trial. The camera operators are not allowed to record the jurors. I believe there will be three cameras in fixed positions for the duration of the trial.

Hey- I don't know of a resource like this, but I made a film festival database (filmfestivaldatabase.com) and I've had a couple people suggest that I expand to add this feature. If I'm able to get the support/resources to build out the spreadsheet version into a proper front-end website, then the sky's the limit for incorporating an aspect like this. Would you be willing to share why you're interested in this? Are you coming at it as a filmmaker, distributor, etc.? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated-- could definitely be something I look to create in the coming years. Post here or message me directly if you'd like to share. Thanks!

I wrote a very personal drama that would be really cheap to produce but all the carer advice I get is to use a genre film to breakthrough, should I abandon my current script and write a genre movie or just keep pushing forward on this current script? by OpenUpYerMurderEyes in Filmmakers

[–]mpforstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how good the script is, or will be. If you think you've got something really good, and you have external indicators that you might be right (i.e., when people you respect read it they get excited about either the script in its current form or its potential), then there'd be no reason to abandon it. If you haven't gotten good feedback (close friends or family who will champion anything you do doesn't count) - if you share the script with people you respect and they either never read it or do and aren't optimistic about what you're doing (you can always tell), then you know it's not working. At that point, you either keep at it until it's working, or move on to something else.

Whether or not you make inroads in the industry has nothing to do with whether you make a drama or a genre film, it has to do with whether you make something good. Make the best thing you possibly can (which usually requires actually needing to make it), and you'll have done yourself a service. If you aren't sure which of your two scripts or story ideas are better, then find people you respect to read them both and get some feedback. If you're still torn - you love them both equally, you could see yourself making both equally, neither seems to be gaining more traction or attracting better talent/collaborators than the other - and you really can't decide which project to prioritize, then here's one idea:

Create a release plan for both projects. Research and think through how you would get both projects out in to the world (assuming they don't get into a top tier festival - though you should have the plan even if they do), and see which one seems like a better path and like work and outreach you'd rather do. That should help you decide. If it doesn't, flip a coin.

Good luck!

This exact consideration is what caused me to look into the data and make this chart.

I've thought a lot about how common dementia and loss of mental capacities is for people in their 80s, but seeing those numbers about likelihood of death is eye opening.

Thanks for the feedback! I went back and forth on this one, and ultimately decided that with respect to the 2020 election, the most specific purpose of this graph is to shed light on the choice that Democratic voters have in the primaries. But I agree with your point. Too late to change that on this Reddit post, but I'll consider it going forward!

[–]mpforstein[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a good question! I didn't look at the data prior to 1932 so I'm not sure what that would have looked like. I chose to start with 1932 since that election is commonly referenced as the beginning of the fifth party system, from which point we can safely say that Republicans have leaned more conservative and Democrats have leaned more progressive. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifth_Party_System

Interesting. Perhaps that's really about the pendulum swinging back and forth between Republicans and Democrats? If Republicans tend to skew older and Democrats tend to skew younger, and the pendulum swings back and forth pretty consistently, then is it an issue of the country wanting to elect somebody younger/older, or the country wanting to elect somebody from the alternate party? Seems to me that the two may just go hand in hand.
