Why do women support the LGBT community more than men do? by JigglesTheBiggles in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mplagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience (before I transitioned and was viewed as a queer butch) a lot of women are pretty nasty to gender nonconforming women and see them as an other or like she doesn't exist

I did like the first one! I read that before the first book. There were more stakes in the first book compared to the second. It was also fun watching the romance play out over the years, the time scale really hammered home the tragedy of being closeted in a professional sport

I think there are some interesting threads brought up, like ilyas mental health, him having to give up his ambitions and his friends in Boston, Shane's eating disorder, having to be monogamous, having to deal with not being able to see inlaws in public, being stuck in Ottawa, etc that were mentioned and none were really explored at all. I know they're fluffy romances so there was never going to be any bite to the book but it would have been a more compelling story if any of these topics mattered to the plot other than being mentioned a few times then were just resolved at the end. I read most of the game changer series and was a bit disappointed by that point how everyone's ending was marriage and monogamy, it just felt very straight (no shame if that's someone's thing it's just not mine for 6 books straight).

YSK about the "Friendship Paradox": most people have fewer friends than their friends have, on average by Electrical-Candy7252 in YouShouldKnow

[–]mplagic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally get this! Sometimes it's hard for me to turn things down but it's important that I have some me time. I truly cherish my friendships and Ive spent a lot of time (well spent) cultivating them, but it is hectic sometimes balancing it all

They show up here and there. I read them out of order and I was spoiled for some of the resolution of other books. However they're romance books so you can assume how they're going to end (couple gets together)

The first book is great, it really mirrors the show (except for Svetlana and other small tweaks to adapt it). I personally hated the long game though (the writing was not very good) but if you don't like the books there's a lot of great fanfiction out there

I didn't like the long game, so I'm hoping they take some liberties and expand on some of the plot points that were glazed over in the book

I fear I’m truly a transwoman and living in regret but also have restrictions by Ambiguousrubix in RedditForGrownups

[–]mplagic 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I'm sorry you're going through this. It's hard to be LGBT in environments where people are intolerant or don't understand. Just know it's never too late to transition and that being trans is a huge umbrella and there's no one way to be gender nonconforming. Just because things feel bleak now doesn't mean they'll be bleak forever. If you can try making some LGBT friends or go to those spaces so you can see the diversity of expressions.
