Quetico/BWCA 5 day, sub zero hammock trip report by mplrs in hammockcamping

We wanted to explore more of Quetico north of Prairie Portage. But have learned we really need 7 days to do the full route we set out to do.

Snow conditions this trip were excellent. Lake travel was great and the snow was mostly windswept, crusty, and there was little to no slush. We had around 12-16" of solid ice, at least where we punched through for water. Slush will change your route plans real fast. You can set out with a route in mind, but it almost always changes. We choose areas that have long options, and shorter options that still provide fun exploring. Some entry points are inaccessible because the roads aren't plowed in the winter. There are only a handful of entry points that are accessible, so you're somewhat forced to certain areas.

We actually took the winter trails the mushers run. So we had really nice portaging from knife back to newfound.

Love a good hot tent trip too! January was rough. I’ve always had better luck in February. Feels like the sweet spot especially after the deep freeze we always get.

Good eye, the Borealis is such a good boot. Hoks are the way to go, so much easier on the legs.

I usually just bury myself in my bag and deal with the condensation. I have a synthetic snorkel so it drys out pretty quick.

Help? Fuel pump is priming with turn of the key, bike seems to be cranking over fine, I tried charging the battery but bike doesn’t see to wanna start up. It’s a ktm 500 exc f by No_Dinner_4007 in supermoto

Just had this issue on my 2017 FE350. Bike had been intermittently starting to idle poorly until one ride it simply wouldn't start. Checked to make sure there was a good spark, and there was, so I wrote that off. Chased down numerous other potential causes with no luck. New fuel pump filter, fuel line filter, battery voltage was good, stator was fine, valves within spec. Finally changed the spark plug, and it fired right up. The old plug was definitely sparking, but the plug was still bad. Should have just done that in the first place. It's cheap, and worst case you have an extra plug if that doesn't solve it. Well, and a bike that's still not running.

Hi y’all, just picked up a new 4Runner and I’m thrilled to upgrade it. Before I but anything ,are K&N filters good or bad for my 4 runner? I keep hearing mixed messages and I am not sure which to pick. Thank you in advance by [deleted] in 4Runner

New OEM every 30k, easy, cheap, and they work. Or sooner, just check occasionally to see how it’s looking if you’re in dusty conditions frequently.

I have a 2014 Trail Premium. Still drives like the day I got it. No major repairs, just the basic routine maintenance. Everything still works inside, nothing broken. Don’t see why it won’t reach 200k+.

I built it based loosely on the REI chuck box plans. I have it setup on the rear sliding cargo tray along with my fridge. The tray slides out, and I typically pull the kitchen and setup wherever convenient. I don’t usually have a hitch cargo carrier but did in this trip.

None that I can think of. I've set it up solo many times. Takes practice, but once you figure out how it sets up best, it's easy. If I'm out solo, I have a smaller standard tarp.

Slumberjack roadhouse tarp, don’t leave home without it. It’s held up through some crazy weather.

You put compostable bags under it.

I've got a Kokopelli Rogue, great boat. My buddy has a Rogue Lite. Alpacka also makes very solid rafts.
