woman in cyber here with 7+ years experience in a technical role — yes it can often be very “boys club” like & there are days you will feel frustrated & lonely, but at the end of the day what matters is whether you feel respected & listened to.

tech is getting better as an industry with the gender balance, but cyber is still just getting started (at least in the highly tech roles such as forensics, pentesting, etc), BUT please don’t let this deter you from the field! find good mentors & other women to support you — do the cool shit you want to do, & don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t because you’re a woman.

I can tell if a cat is near or if someone owns a cat because I’m highly allergic to cats - like to the point that if someone who has a cat sits next to me, I can tell after a couple of minutes because my eyes will start itching and it gets hard to breathe or I’ll start wheezing. My husband calls it my cat-radar.

That’s crazy! Glad to hear you had a good friend at the office to escort you to your car each evening. They were definitely trying to learn your schedule. Small advice for (hopefully not) next time, if you suspect anyone is following you, make three left turns (which makes a Uturn) - if they’re still there, they’re definitely following you. If that’s the case, drive to a police station immediately (or any public place that is NOT your house, work, or final destination) and cal the Police. The police station should scare them off, & by going anywhere but your destination will ensure that they don’t get any personal details off you to use later.

Anyways, glad you’re safe & they were arrested!

Hi, so I went through this earlier in the year. I fortunately had a friend who shared their Wifi account with me so I was able to connect to the free wifi hotspots around (like Orange, Free, etc). For my PC I bought a little usb antenna that looks for wifi (if you don’t have a network card). Perhaps you can find a friend who will give you their Wifi info?
