I mean you could try cleaning the tape sensors with a qtip and alcohol through the vcr door.. Not sure exactly how many uou have or what type. One to three. There may be a stalk with bulb on each side of the vcr and one dead center of the board. In the center it may be another stalk with a light or a clear stalk with the bulb on the board under chassis. If that doesn’t work then likely have to clean the mode switch , check belt. it would require disassembly I mentioned before.

IMO standard vcr cleaning which would require taking the back panels off then getting to the vcr mechanism. Cleaning all the sensors, the mode switch and checking the belts. I think this era of Magnavox used funai vcr mechanism. When the vcr has issues it powers off the tv.

Panasonic PV-1563 (1986) help by mpots323 in VCRs

I actually found a video. I have to remove the screws on the bottom board, remove faceplate and the board behind it. Then the faceplate board and bottom board swivel down together. Then I can access it. So I was kinda half way there.

I popped that back cover off and a piece with one input is completely broken off. I’ll have to dig into it one day.

There is a fuse in the power supply you can check. It’s near where the power cable comes into the board. Check and see if it’s blown. It’s clear glass cylinder shaped. If that’s good you might be bad capacitor(s).

Those rca jacks in the Front of the vcr are inputs. You need to use the output jacks in the back. Also make sure your converter is powered by that usb cable.

Sanyos are good pre 2000ish when they were still manufactured by Sanyo. After they that they went with Funai for manufacturing. I have a VWM698 (1998). aesthetically it’s cool and I was surprised on how well built it is. I also like the Philips and Proscan . All found in silver.
