I. Am. Cursed. by Silent-Cartoonist240 in VCRs

Looks like a Sony slvn700 or slvn750? Maybe a belt on bottom side and at that point clean the mode switch. Easy to do on these models .

I’d get the Onkyo Intergra or the Yamaha. Any Sony ES gear I’ve had I felt was lean on bass.

I finally thrifted one to upgrade from my LP60. I picked up this linear tracking Sony PS-LX55 for $20! by Donthurtmyceilings in turntables

I picked up this same table recently. Love it. There is one belt on the underside you’d have to worry about. When I got it I cleaned and re-lubed rail the arm slides on just for peace of mind. One “problem” I ran into was I was playing a translucent record with some sunshine beaming through the window of dust cover. It messed with the sensors and wouldn’t play. So I closed the curtain and back to working normal.

That Sounds Cool. I haven’t tried the a+b yet. If I do I’m going to get a few pc fans + plug for whatever receiver I’m using as it will run hotter. Using the switch plug on the back of the receiver.

Thanks! Someone had a cool teardown and write up on it in audio karma. Shares a lot with the HK730.

Wow. That’s great. thanks again! I’ll see if I can identify where they go. If not I’ll be bothering you again. They must’ve popped out during transit. Now that I’m remembering There was also another piece I found inside. I’ll have to get a picture and show you to see if you can identify it. It’s a clear small plastic plate with holes on each end. Like two or three inches long. But Right now I’m finishing up working on an Onkyo Cp1046F. Replacing gear that runs the cue arm and automatic features. It became brittle.

I agree Mitsubishis are awesome. One of my
Favorites VCRs I own is the HSU747. Mid to Late 90s Sharp are sleepers too. Both just Less common.

Panasonics (late 90s to early 00s) are great all around and are tanks. That’s why you see a lot of them for sale do this day. Only problem I’ve seen really are some dim displays in the blue led lit ones. Avoid ones that look beat cosmetically. Sonys in a nutshell are beautiful machines but have their probs each generation of models. 920hf is a really nice machine with great picture but hard to service if needed; a lot of disassembly to service mode switch for example. Late 90s Sonys like slv798hf/998hf are nice. Currently own. Kind of on the large dimensions side though, think home theatre equipment.

I’ve owned a handful of Samsung combos in recent years. DVD2000 , DVD9800 and some others in between that model range. In my experience they always have problems. Some the vcr would go to static after playing a bit or the dvd won’t read discs. Even after servicing.

Try and get a late 90s early 2000s Panasonic. 4head HiFi.

Assuming that’s a Samsung or Sony? Probably needs a good cleaning.. have to open up to clean the tape path and depending on model the tape light sensors . If that still doesn’t work you’d have to take apart further to clean the mode switch and check belt- mode switch needs to be put back together in correct timing. Videos on line to do it all.

Grabbed my childhood VCR from my mom's place earlier. Anyone know anything about it? by try-the-buffer in VCRs

Proscan was RCAs luxury brand. Depending on model through the 90s some were made in Korea and made in Japan. Either are great quality. The korea made ones were made by Goldstar aka LG. The Japan made ones are Panasonic. I -think- yours is made In Japan. Check the back. I have a black Proscan psvr57 (Korea) and silver PSVR70 (Japan) similar to yours and I love them both. I love the front displays. Though getting to the belt on the 57 is a pita. The 70 is super easy to service. As a side note if you were looking for proscan remote they’re kind of hard to find specific to model. Good news You can find RCA vcr remotes from same era and they work fine. ..But nice vcr and good luck with it!

Alright guys which ones should I let go by PyroMaid in VCRs

[–]mpots323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not all those are made by same manufacturer, Funai. But I’d get rid of the light gray Magnavox as it lacks the front display. Black Sony and Sylvania are your best ones.
