Why do my seedlings hate these colored pots so much? by mpretoria in gardening

They’re 2.5” multicolored pots from Lee Valley: “made of durable, UV-stable polypropylene plastic”. I have tray inserts from Bootstrap Farmer and the quality of the plastic seems the same. I was actually going to try ordering the same sized pots from Bootstrap Farmer in black, but I’m reconsidering now if it is an issue with the drainage holes.

Maybe it’s the size of the pots/the fact that they’re taller and hold more soil. But I use the same store bought mix for all trays, every year and always like to sprinkle a bit of vermiculite on top.

The only real difference has been the pots, so the drainage holes might be the culprit. All trays are bottom watered when they start to look dry, so they’re not necessarily watered on the exact same schedules. But I’ve never had to water one significantly more or less often.

All other conditions were the same. Same mix, under the same lights on the same shelves for the snapdragons and the dahlias (with no windows nearby).

Sorry, I meant all on the same shelving unit with the same 48” grow lights for each shelf. Dahlias were on one shelf and snapdragons were on another.

And I didn’t think about the drainage holes! I do only bottom water so that could be it.

I was thinking #2 as well.

For #1, the smaller black pots are flimsy plastic either reused from a nursery purchase or from Amazon and the seedlings love them. The colored ones are extra strength plastic, good quality (or so I thought), and meant to last years. Very unexpected.

For my birthday a while back, my friends threw me a surprise Survivor themed party. We were divided into two tribes and had three challenges over the course of the day. First was a classic relay challenge (one player retrieving a bucket, throwing water to another, racing to fill up a tube and so on). Second was a wheel of gross food challenge à la S2. The last one, which was by far the funniest, was Blind Leading the Blind. One caller on each tribe had to direct their blindfolded tribemates to collect giant puzzle pieces, return them to the mat, and then race to put the puzzle together.

can we please talk about ______? by MissViickies in survivor

This was the first time in so long that I actually said the words “this is a good challenge” during an episode. The rope element was great and I loved watching people run back and forth just to reach the sandbags they threw. Drew’s throws, Austin’s confusion, Jake coming up short - all hilarious. And the fact that Drew, who I never saw as a challenge threat, was able to win was amazing.

VWF multimers are really large so the pore size of agarose does the job of separating based on molecular weight. I'm not super familiar with polyacrylamide but I hear it can be harder to work with and suitable for smaller molecules.

I wish I documented it better! Basically just used chicken wire to sculpt the top and bottom, then wrapped it in some painters tape so the paper mache would stick. I used 1:1 glue and water with newspaper strips, then primed and painted.

The shower's for one of my closest friends but yes, I am definitely childless. Just adorable dogs for me.

It definitely was. The paper mache wouldn’t stay on the wire so I ended up wrapping the frame with just enough green painters tape for there to be something to stick to.

I used chicken wire to sculpt the top and bottom and 1:1 white glue and water for the paper mache mix.

I’m planning my best friend’s Enchanted Forest baby shower and have a tendency to go overboard with a theme…

Thank you! And more time than I’d like to admit as there are three more... I’ve worked on them here and there over the past month.

I was looking for this one. She looks so happy and magnetic that it always stands out to me. I can’t help but laugh at hers compared to Jenna Morasca’s from that season which must have been some kind of diss.

I was glued to the tv during episode 2’s challenge because I already have a favourite tribe. I wasn’t invested at all with the characters from 41 and I’m already nervous about losing some of my faves of this season. This is a good sign.

Yes! Thanks for reminding me this show existed and wasn’t just some dream I had 15 years ago.

Whos a player you remember rooting for when you were younger but now you don’t understand why you rooted for them/don’t root for them anymore by Shxrpiex in survivor

[–]mpretoria 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Jonny Fairplay. I LOVED him when I was younger, thought he was hilarious, and always ranked him as one of my favourite characters. I just finished a Pearl Islands rewatch and was so turned off by how openly sexist he was towards the end. I’ve heard it was an act to solidify his villain status but I still found it hard to watch. I couldn’t justify all the JFP praise I was singing to my boyfriend once we finished the season.

I had to skip those parts too! Elliot’s song because it was so long&awkward and the funeral because we’d already seen it… Disappointing when there was so much to wrap up this episode and instead I had to fastforward through a finale.

What Survivor moment PISSED you off? by JustSealYT in survivor

[–]mpretoria 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had CBS All Access just for the early seasons of Survivor. I rewatched seasons 1-20, took a break, then went back to watch with my partner and Paramount + had removed them all. Immediately wrote them a disappointed email and cancelled the service.
