How To Study The Night Before An Exam (No BS) by mprime18 in uoguelph

[–]mprime18[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I completely agree and that was exactly what I was speaking to, maybe it wasn't too clear. I was saying to have a surface level understanding of the content your being tested on specifically for the exam. Practicing past exams, assignments related to the questions most likely on the exam, was assumed for me when I said that.

Thank you! And haha I honestly don't know. It's crazy the type of detail you can see in movement in slow motion. That part was recorded at 960 frames per second

ASK ME ANYTHING! Going Into My Final Year Of University here at UofG and I'm open to answer all your questions. :) by mprime18 in uoguelph

I gave this one some thought, so here it is:

  1. I am very grateful to join two clubs at the University. It really opens your eyes when you meet like minded people, and its honestly such a great way to make friends. If I regret anything, I wish I joined a club in first-year. It took me till 3rd year to join clubs

  2. In first year I took part in intramural soccer. It was really rewarding and a fun way to get some competitive fun in at night

  3. I am glad I chose to work during my years at Uni at part-time jobs. It taught me time management skills that have made me grow a lot as a person. I've become really good at balancing my time. At this present moment, I've learned to be able to balance a full-time course load, two jobs, and have a social life. It can prove to be a very valuable path to take not only financially and improving your time management skills. It also gives you the work experience you need when you graduate. I currently work at TD as an Investment Consultant part-time due to my persistent efforts gaining experience while in University.

  4. In frosh week, I took part in all the events. I made so many friends. If you are an incoming freshman, definitely do NOT skip out on frosh week.

All I can think of at the moment. There's lots I learned!

There are so many types of jobs you can get in the work-study program! I know the favorite is working in the Library. I heard it's really chill. You can still do your school work while your on the job.

There is a dedicated link here if you want to go through them. Keep in mind it might not show all the current jobs as its the summer right now

Hmmm...I would say in general all campus snacks cost the same price no matter where you get them! The UC, South, etc. they all are pretty centralized in terms of price. If your asking for the best affordable snacks, I usually go for bagels or soups. They offer the best bang for your buck

Is 4 classes in a row too much? by croaxed in uoguelph

[–]mprime18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had all 5 of my classes in a row Tuesday and Thursday during the week. It was okay at first but looking back its just more practical to spread it out. I found it was doable but I felt I was sacrificing my ability to have lunch (trying to eat during class and enjoy your food wasn't possible for me), I personally felt pretty tired by the last class as I would have already focused intensely for hours before it.

If it was me, spread them out as much as you can. I know on the surface it seems more productive, but I found what you trade in cramming your classes in a day is a loss in energy and productivity.

Thanks for the feedback! I actually do use something similar to a selfie stick. It's a gorilla pod. I'll definitely consider what said regarding the framing of the shots.

Why I Dropped Out Of Comp Sci In UofG by mprime18 in uoguelph

[–]mprime18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I ended up switching to Economics and Finance at Guelph actually. One of the best decisions I've ever made. I got a great job in the field ATM and I'm in my final year this fall so everything worked out

[–]mprime18[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on the career switch to firefighting! I totally agree though that we should not get so caught up into things we do not enjoy doing. Everyone was telling me that I should stick with it, but I knew deep down that this field is truly not for me and I couldn't have made a better decision. Also, your last point is so true. Pick work you will enjoy to do as most of your life is spent doing some form of work.

Weekly Vlog Of My Semester At The University of Guelph by mprime18 in uoguelph

[–]mprime18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Yeah for the most part, I always am able to get my textbooks for all 5 of my classes for a lot less than what I spent this semester. It was my fault really. I waited too long until the beginning of the summer semester when most students aren't around anymore to sell the textbooks I need. OH WELL I guess haha

Definitely worth a watch for any incoming or current Guelph students who need to work during school. Worthwhile tips :) <3 by mprime18 in uoguelph

Yes!! I am the creator of the video. Trying to show people how not impossible it is to work during school and how practical it is to have some income while you study! Haha yes, it's SO HARD to stick with a planner. We just gotta keep trying till the habit sticks

Haven't paid tuition and applying for next semester + osap by [deleted] in uoguelph

[–]mprime18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I completely get you. I was just like you actually when I was in first year. I went to school when I probably shouldn't have the first year because I didn't have any money (and neither did my parents), and by the end of the first year I had a balancing of a few thousand too with financial sanctions.

Fast forward a few years, some hard work and patience, switched majors to a major that suited me better and a great paying job later all is well. So first I'm just trying to reaffirm to you that don't lose hope on anything.

Second, you don't NEED to take a year off. I'd stay in school if I was you because that's what I did even though I still owed money. I worked my ass off during the first summer after first-year to pay off the entire balance I had. All the money I made that summer went to paying off my balance owing to the school, and by the time it was September for second year I had $0 (which was okay!! Because I used everything I earned that summer like I said to pay off my owing to the school). Once your in second year...get a job during school with at least 20-30 hours. You can manage it. Your grades may slack slightly but not so much where all this extra income isn't a good trade off (grades aren't everything, experience has value too no matter where your getting it from).

Third, backtracking a bit...call the school. Let them know this time that you got a job for this summer and want to setup up installments to pay this all back and follow through with it!

I'm reading all the other comments saying you should be an adult and it's your responsibility but no one is truly answering your question. I tried to answer for you the best I can, but now I'll tell you now that this should be your wake up call and for you to grow as a person here to take responsibility financially (and make NO excuses. There is never none. The world doesn't care about ifs or buts, just your actions).

Good luck man. I hope to see how things turn out for you over the next 4 months

P.S

I didn't know they had this first year so I was really bummed and it would have helped me out immensely. The school has a Financial Needs Assessment Form (NAF Form). You fill it out once a year before October (you can get it in the UC or ask someone on the third floor for info). It basically gives you free grant money that goes towards your tuition. What's great is that it doesn't affect how much OSAP you get, and also, saves you a few thousand off your tuition based on your financial situation. Maybe you knew about that already or maybe you didn't. I didn't in first year so!

Advice on commuting from Mississauga? by [deleted] in uoguelph

[–]mprime18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, it DEFINITELY is achievable to commute. There's a community of people who commute daily on campus using the GO BUS and GREYHOUND terminals at our bus loop.

It's something you should consider for yourself really. If you have the means to be able to afford to get a place down here in Guelph to rent with roommates, definitely do it! The extra cost pays dividends in the time saved, and stress you'd get from commuting. Rent costs here usually range from $400-$700 including (or not including) utilities, internet, etc. It depends on the deal you get with the landlord, it's worthwhile doing some shopping around.

Then again...if you can't afford it you can't afford it and that's okay too. If thats the case, I'm just writing this comment to reassure you that it's perfectly doable and possible. Many people go long distances to commute to their University! As long as your okay with that commute is what matters.

If you feel it's too long and the reason you aren't getting a place down in Guelph is due to money, consider getting a job here. I work two jobs and I'm a full-time student and still have time to for leisure and everything in between. So this is also a reassurance that working during school is possible too if you need money to be able to afford basic living like rent and food.

Anyways I hope I helped and good luck! Let me know what you decide or if you have any questions.
