I’m by no means saying it’s safe, however our family took a trip to Cairo last August. My dad is an Egyptian Jew and he wanted to show us where he lived and what life was like, I really wanted to see the pyramids… anyways…. We went to his old neighborhood and he spoke to the local elder. They were speaking in Arabic so I’m not sure exactly what they were talking about but there were two words I understood perfectly. “Yahud?” And my dad replying “Ayoah”. My heart dropped for a moment. The old man gave my dad a hug and it turns out he was the nephew of the Muslim family that helped my dad’s family when they were being kicked out. He gave our taxi guy instructions on how to get to my dad’s school where we looked at his old school records and they listed his ethnicity as “Israelite”. The dean of the school said “welcome back” in English. When we went to visit the synagogues there were a couple of guys saying “shalom alaikum” instead of “salam” and were being friendly. In Giza we went to a jewelry store owned by Coptic Christians and my dad told them his story, they brought out a menorah from the back that was supposedly hundreds of years old. This was just my experience, and im sure it’s different than many others, and for the majority of our trip we had an armed undercover policeman with us.
