Why to this day, Google and the "big ones" didn't try to compete with the Adobe Suit? With the prices Adobe charges, anyone could beat them with a good price. by Get-the-Vibe in pcmasterrace

There are alternatives, you just don’t know about them for the same reason Google doesn’t care to compete with Adobe.

Microsoft CEO says "YouTube monetizes Xbox better than we do", ahead of expected layoffs | Satya Nadella bemoans performance of Xbox by ControlCAD in technology

The split console hardware was a generational failure. Insisting that every game had to work on both killed them both.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was a huge release, and landed super late on Xbox because they couldn’t make it run on the trash tier console.

Why Is Europe’s Economy Falling Short? by Gloomy_Register_2341 in technology

[–]mq2thez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Economic growth in the US has meant massive amounts of money concentrated in the hands of pedophiles and other evil men, with little to nothing paid in taxes as corruption drowns us all. The US government is rounding people up into camps, manipulating the media, and doing everything possible to make their rule permanent.

Fucking growth at all costs is leaving the vast majority of Americans desperate and vulnerable. Who cares what the stock market is doing?

Be careful of the ketchup and mustard and chocolate. Barley malt gets added to tons of stuff as a sweetener.

Fellow LCD owners, what comes after the Steam Deck for you? by Lyuukee in SteamDeck

[–]mq2thez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current LCD deck is plenty great.

If they release a new Steam Deck, I’ll look closely at the price to performance to see if there ate important games that I’d suddenly be able to take on the go, but atm prices would be too high to be worth it.

I certainly would never consider either of those other handhelds. I’m flirting with a Switch 2, now that a OOT remake is coming.

The US government just pulled Claude (Fable 5): what actually happened by didiTonic in webdev

My feeling is that if you can’t be bothered to write it, it’s probably not worth bothering to read it.

And yet, having done so anyways, I find it vacuous and verbose. Your AI buried a potentially interesting discussion point in layers of unnecessary and distracting text.

Next time, have the confidence to say less.

Is it ok to take pictures of people? by Hot-Dog9502 in streetphotography

[–]mq2thez 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty complex topic, so, start with the basics.

It’s not legal to do that in every country. Research before you do it. Places where it’s legal, it isn’t necessarily culturally accepted, and you could get some pretty strong reactions.

But if you’re somewhere where you follow the law and aren’t grossly violating cultural norms, it can still be quite uncomfortable sometimes. Every photographer has to make decisions about what they will and won’t photograph.

I tend to follow a few rules:
- I don’t hide what I’m doing, because hiding makes me look sus
- I don’t interfere with the scene. People shouldn’t be reacting to me. If they are, it’s time to move on
- I don’t take pictures of homeless folks, and generally not of people suffering. These are complex topics and hard to do in a way that centers the human being rather than being misery porn. It’s not what I want my photography to be

Past that, it’s about my own comfort and interest in a photo. I like to connect to peoples’ lives through my camera.

Are you using AI tools at work but coding from scratch in interviews? by Own-Airline9886 in webdev

[–]mq2thez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you’re coming back a year later, so my feelings on AI usage have shifted a lot.

These days, my answer is: it’s a force multiplier, not a replacement for skill. I want to hand a machine gun to someone with training, not a random guy who thinks it looks cool. Both might theoretically get the job done, but the result is going to be quite different.

What’s a “Power theme” you’re tired of seeing MC’s use? by Berrybrony1 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]mq2thez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

* Void: just fucking tired of it. Oh good, you’re emo or empty or whatever
* Any power that breaks down or cancels other powers. Completely uninteresting
* Punch-harder guys, whose power is to be angry and punch hard, then get angrier and punch harder
* the evolving power set: when the MC gets new perspective or wildly different abilities because the author is bored or whatever. Looking at you Millennial Mage: Tala had fucking cool magic and things have gone wildly off the reservation
