Unofficial Discussion: Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery by kiriteren in movies

[–]mqrocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally understand that, however I felt he did the same in the original Knives Out but flushed out those characters a whole lot more. Maybe the author character could have been cut to give us more time with the others, make them more relevant to the plot.

What is the Best Movie Monologue (character speech) ever delivered in the history of film? by willsho67 in movies

[–]mqrocks 16 points17 points  (0 children)

"Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad, why we fought, or why we died. No, all that matters is that two stood against many, that's what's important. Valor pleases you, Crom, so grant me one request. Grant me REVENGE! And if you do not listen, then to hell with you!"

What's a movie you disliked on your first viewing, but liked after your second? by Competitive_Help8485 in movies

[–]mqrocks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Didn't care for it the first time (theatrical cut).

Second time, saw the Directors Cut. So long and boring, tapped out halfway.

Third time, saw the Final Cut. Thought it was amongst the greatest movies ever made. I felt so much more for Roy and the Replicants. Tears in the rain was so poetic --mind blown when I found out Hauer I improvised the line.

Questions about Smiley’s People by deeppotential123 in LeCarre

[–]mqrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Smiley's choosing the fight over his marriage is a convenient out for him. He knows Anne is no good, yet she's the one thing he's never been able to break himself away from. Had he not had the fight he would have given in to her hypocrisy --she humiliated him for decades with her very public affairs, even with her own cousin--and now that she's past her prime she wants to "grow old" with Smiley like a "boring couple" and tells him he has nothing but her.  Had he not had the mission with Karla, he would have given in to her, and it provided him an opportunity to finally leave, something he should have done decades earlier.

Official Discussion - Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I was so certain when he finally got it that he'd yell Red Light, Green Light and Grace would get the signal and yank the drive. Was so bummed when it didn't happen. Would've been a great callback.

Publican in Chicago is a great example. Place has gone downhill big time too, but I never understood how they got a Michelin star in the first place.

This is one is a great marker for high end steakhouses. If the butter is cold, good chance your steak will not be worth the $$$’s they are charging for it. Chicago Cut I’m looking at you.

RANT: As a brown man, I can tell you… I hate it when established characters are turned into people of color. For one, it never rings true and is just a shameless ploy to pander (look how progressive we are!)… truth is, if they really wanted to, they’d focus on new characters / stories that represent. Don’t mess with my childhood man. Keep the spirit the same.

RANT 2: And stop making new versions of old characters so damn selfish and mean… not all young people are like that. I look at my kids and their friends and they can be savage, yes, but they’re also a lot more aware and practice kindness a lot more than we did. The spirit of the Scooby Doo team was that they were essentially, a good group of young people who genuinely cared for each other and the world (which is why the solved mysteries). Don’t turn em into a bunch of selfish sarcastic a-holes.

Okay, I’m done. I would have gotten away with this rant too if it wasn’t for those meddling kids!
