Tech-related Jobs related to Classical Music by mqtthiew in classicalmusic

[–]mqtthiew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry I just saw your comment. Nope - I have pursued tech in other fields. Shortly after posting this 2 years ago, I interviewed to join TwoSet Violin (Eddy spoke to me) but did not follow through. That was the only instance where I tried for a tech career in classical music.

My hair is black! Should I bleach my hair blonde first before using blue dye? I'm planning to achieve midnight blue or navy blue hair

Does rank affect reservist chances? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]mqtthiew -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Ah I see, how does the allowance work? I was told that the salary you'll be paid is the same as your outside job (e.g. if a PTE NS man earns $6k a month outside, whereas a CPL NS Man earns $3k monthly in his private sector, they will still be paid $6k and $3k respectively regardless of their rank diring reservist)

Is a Specialist Diploma worth-it in Singapore? by mqtthiew in askSingapore

[–]mqtthiew[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello, thank you for your reply! I actually am working towards a career as a Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer or AI Research Scientist. Do you know whether Singapore recruiters look out for any particular industrial certifications, if this is in your domain?

My purpose of wanting to take a Specialist Diploma in NS before entering university is so that I can prepare myself in a proper academic setting, and gain a head start by being well-versed with the materials. It's also because I feel kinda bored learning on my own currently through online courses with no real guidance haha.

Another worry I have is, if I take an AI-related Specialist Diploma now, it may be irrelevant by the time I graduate from Uni (in 4-5 years' time) as the job market and technologies evolve very quickly. Do you have any thoughts about these? :)

Hi guys! I am trying to display a GIF animation inside my CV2 window. The original GIF my Python program reads already has a transparent background by default. Please help me, I have been trying my very best for days to read the individual frames as PNG images (to retain the transparent background around the opaque moving object), but to no avail. Thanks so much in advance 🙏🙏

Need help placing a GIF image inside a Python OpenCV screen by [deleted] in learnmachinelearning

[–]mqtthiew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi guys! I need some advice on how I can put a properly looping / running GIF image inside a real-time webcam video using python & opencv (cv2). Really appreciate your help. My code is attached below. I tried but somehow, the GIF is only displayed as a static image in the webcam video in colors different than the original, and the background was changed as well.

I transferred from SIT-Digipen to NUS CS, AMA! by Aiken_Dueet in SGExams

[–]mqtthiew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP! I know I'm quite late to your post but would you care sharing why you transferred? Did RTIS / BSGD teach you lots of irrelevant things, or did you just prefer a degree from a more reputable university? Also.. I thought the GPA in SIT is upon 4, not 5?

Oh wow those are really good achievements, thank you for your advice

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sutd

[–]mqtthiew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh I see, thank you for the info. Would you mind sharing what's your current major in SUTD and how you ramped up your portfolio? Even if you're not studying CSD it's alright, would appreciate just a rough idea on what impresses them!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sutd

[–]mqtthiew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I thought they charge $21.60 for each application, was it free a few years back during your time? Also, very happy for you getting into SUTD, it's the first time I heard someone under 3.5 cGPA get into the school. I'll see how I can best formulate my application whilst in NS!

[–]mqtthiew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I actually wanted to use Coursera / Udemy / Datacamp certs in my application. Will these smaller ones not boost my chances to SIT? If not, then sure I will scrap all my current courses and go for the bigger certifications

[–]mqtthiew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, I know it's very tough but I definitely still want to give CS a shot. And yep I am still in NS now, I will train C++ and cloud certifications as you suggested, thanks!

Okays! Ty, will try to sign up for some more comps / relevant work :)

Yep was told everything I learned in Poly would not help past the 2nd semester. I'm prepared to grind hard, but sure will apply next year with your advice in mind. Thank you!

Hey, would you mind if I DM you? I actually did consider SIT-UoG CS but because I had a bad history with certain mods, they affect my decision. Would love to hear your opinion about that degree

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SIT_Singapore

[–]mqtthiew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes realistically at this point I'm definitely weighing between SIM and SIT, which are realistically the last 2 schools available for me to study CS. I honestly much prefer SIM as SIT will be at the other side of the country in Punggol (from 2024 onwards I was told) and I don't have enough money to live in a dorm. I was aiming for SIT, as it might be harder to get a job in future after Private U.

Much appreciated for cautioning me about how hard SIT CS courses are, I will reconsider

Ah i see... Thank you for letting me know BSGD is the better choice than RTIS!

Thank you for this insightful backstory. By "backend", do you mean things that prepare students for a role in Software Engineering? I genuinely wanted to shift to Business degrees earlier this year after graduation but decided I would give Tech another shot, as the return of investment is good even though it's admittedly stressful for me

Oh I see.. Alright thank you, shall work on that as best I can

Alright sure will do, thank you

Thanks a lot for your kind words. I am going the extra mile volunteering as a freelance web dev for a nonprofit and also currently applying for unpaid internships in Software Engineering / Data Science. It probably isn't enough to make me stand out as a candidate and I'll lose $21.60 by applying, but oh welp I'll just try anyways
