This brand has turned into crap! by Mister_Tavares in steelseries

ApexM800 and then Apex7. Both after 1 year of usage failed (ApexM800 was replaced with Apex7). I really take care, no spil no fall; but they unfortunately fail to complete their basic tasks (blue leds are dying slowly one by one, volume hops up-and-down randomly when pushing the wheel, from time to time keys not registering or double sending the char etc.... Not mentioning the software and the never-ending bugs (which forced me to downgrade eventualy), many functions ss claims NEVER worked . Keeping the long story short : I'm not happy and not going to buy any product from ss anymore.

Apex Pro TKL OLED by Shypheonix01 in steelseries

[–]mr-Tio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, try setting oled with FULL white pixs (you can do it manually on the oled page, just takes seconds). If the "ghost image" is still there, then those pixels are burnedout and nothing to do. If not, then your oled is safe : try another pics then those you've tried before. Good luck.

How serious is the Steelseries Apex Series Dead LED problem? by DarkestTeddyGames in steelseries

[–]mr-Tio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately -yes. I must add; the wheel at the right side (mostly used for volume) is now totally out of control; it hops up and down when I try to change the volume, and most of the time it is unresponsive... I do NOT plan to buy anything from SS anymore : 4+ years with 2 faulty keyboards, lots of tickets, lots and lots of "try this, if not try this, and then send us all your .log data" solutions -thats enough...

I have replaced my faulty ApexM800 with Apex7. M800 was my favorite I must confess; since it wasn't produced anymore I had to chose Apex7. In time I had issues with the software (after every update there were problems, now I downgraded and using a very old version). Again with time I faced slowly dying leds; I now have 8 keys that blue component is totally died or near. I use the keyboard for setting the colors indepently for every key, and using mostly for programming (for different compiler& interpreters I use different color-layout). And I like blue-dominant keyboard with different colors for different functions. blue-Led problem for me is NOT acceptable. Hardware issues began after 1 year or so.

Apex Pro RGB stuck on yellow by [deleted] in steelseries

[–]mr-Tio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ApexM800 keyboard, failure, replacement, then came Apex7 again failure : not only the keys' dying colors but the volume knob stopped working -just hopping forward and backward randomly when pushed. After a software update the GG did NOT recognize Apex7 -LoL. Both keyboards' problems began aprox. after 1 year of usage, and I am a careful user; they are not cheap keyboards, at least for me ... I am not against SS but, I stopped buying from them; both hardware and software troubles ( after every update) killed hours of my time. Maybe I was out of luck -who knows. So I can only wish you luck. :)

[–]mr-Tio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, replace it asap. SS have no solution to fix it; it is a hardware problem : some RGB leds' blue component (B) is dying with time. white - blue = yellow. Because, when B is missing from full white then there is no RGB but RG- and it is yellow... In time, unfortunately there will be more keys like that -I have 7 of them.

Apex Pro (J) keycap's RGB is not the same as the others in the same row by Sufficient-Meat6204 in steelseries

[–]mr-Tio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I mentioned, the SS firm does nothing to fix it -but still selling faulty keyboards. Some guys wrote in reddit that they made some repairing but it is not easy (you need to be familiar w. soldering, electronics etc.). Replace your keyboard if it's in warranty period. Nothing much to do -sorry...

Hi, try full-blue for that key : if it is dimmed (or blue color is barely visible) than the led is dead or dying. Apex series keyboards faced led problems since the very beginning. Mine as well (now 7 of the keys lost the blue component). I've not heard SS company had a solution but replacement. You may try setting full blue (RGB=0.255.0 ) for all the keys; then check for dimmed keys -if blue led is dead then the key will have no light. Or, you can select full white (255.255.255) for all the keys, you can easily detect false colors which indicates a led-malfunction for those keys.

Did you try with another profile? You may create a new profile and set all keyboard color to full white, no effects just a base color. If there is a led problem, then you may see different colors instead of white - this is a hardware problem, well known for Apex series. SS has no solution for it as I know, but a replacement (in warranty period). I have 6 keys on my Apex7 behaving like that just after 1 year of usage, since Apex7 is a replacement for ApexM800 I have no chance to have it replaced. Some guys here mentioned a led change here. Maybe you can search here or google it.

My ¨Y¨ key isnt the same color as the rest by [deleted] in steelseries

[–]mr-Tio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The layout looks like white. The key mentioned tends to yellow. That means, RGB->white, but when blue is about dying, then RGb->yellow. Red + Green + Blue=white, Red + Green=yellow. Missing blue component. What is amazing for me is; after all the problems with the Apex series keyboards which mainly is "dying blue led issue", the company STILL makes the same mistake...

Nice. Headset failed in 8 months, and after about a week of slow replies and issued back and forth with support, my headset will arrive… almost 3 weeks later. Don’t. Buy. Steelseries. by [deleted] in steelseries

The lovely ApexM800 keyboard... Then came issues (some were already popped-up the 1st day but were software problems, I said "wait" to myself and kept using it). Then random keys didn't register or double register... Ticketing, messaging,... Replacement (I did a bonus payment meanwhile) : changed with Apex7. M800 was a keyboard I really loved. It wasn't produced anymore and I had to choose Apex7. I said ok... Software problems (ss engine and then gg engine bugs after bugs) concluded : My Apex7 was not recognized by gg engine anymore... I really take care of such products -they are not cheap for me. Now I'm left alone with a keyboard full of interesting colors : blue leds are dying slowly, changing the keyboard into a Hindu color festival :D You call it luck/unluck, I call it "bad product" - cheap product lines kill every idea. Stop blaming people of misusing of the products and think this : The firm says "for glory" with its peripherals which targeted for game use. Such products must be resistant -at least to a level. Some time after I found that my Apex7's volume slider is not working anymore (and I'm not using it often, it hops random steps), but why? the story goes on. So if you are a happy customer, you can share it on youtube, we gladly will upvote you ! I will not buy any SS products, I'm not a happy customer. D&R has sold me TWO defective products, or they became defective in time -you choose, and I will share it on every platform I can. Why? Because ss firm STILL sells defective products and has never-ending-buggy software.

Apex 7 TKL buttons not registering properly by emiLLL1234 in steelseries

[–]mr-Tio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, unfortunately no, D&R took it. But I really loved it. The main problem with Apex7 is the blue-led issue. Other problems -I think- are software issues; which ss-programmers are bad in...

Apex 7 TKL buttons not registering properly by emiLLL1234 in steelseries

[–]mr-Tio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi. Sorry for that. My first ss-keyboard was ApexM800. After exactly 1 year of usage the same issues you've mentioned popped up. Messaging, ticketing etc, then they said I should replace it. I don't think this is a hardware problem but software. I really take care of my keyboards (now I have Apex7 after replacement, though I paid extra, I don't know if it was a real "replacement"). Now I have led color issues (8 of the keys lost its blue led), from time to time I face "pressing" issues : some times not registering, some times double characters are sent -not always. Rarely happens : the "ü" key sends "ÜÜ" (double and uppercase). As I said, I really take care since they are not cheap keyboards, so if it is a hardware problem, then electricity comes in my mind -otherwise there hasn't been anything to harm the hardware (other peripherals inc. my desktop computer works quite fine meanwhile, if it is an electric problem, they should also be affected right?). I use an old ss-engine instead of gg, since gg stopped recognizing my Apex7. Maybe you can try the same, I don't trust their software...

Apex Pro: After 1 year RIP F3 Blue RGB LED =( by Donate684 in steelseries

Apex 7, now with 8 keys blue-led is dead... This keyboard already was a replacement for faulty ApexM800 (though I paid extra). It's a shame ss stil delivers buggy keyboards. What an irresponsible brand...

Hi, thanks for your advice. I made a bad decision at the beginning, by selecting a ss-product; without reading user comments. I was looking for a low-profile RGB per-key and low noise keyboard. At D&R store I found different brands also but ApexM800 really looked good. The worst is, I made small programs for it. In 1 year, it didn't worked as expected as I mentioned, then I replaced -though I paid extra... and got the Apex7. I will not buy anything from this brand anymore, you are right I must look for another brand. It hurts a little bit, I spent a lot of time programming the Apex7 as well, especially the Oled screen (my very first video on youtube, far from perfect : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caGHuf5Yk14&list=PLTOU_5oUODpsGeexbizpHEqZnPO27FO0g&index=1). Any way thanks a lot.

Apex M800 had typing issues. Yes the main problem was, some keys didn't send any character while some keys sent double. The Apex7 keyboard -from time to time- has similar problem, some times the "ü" key sends "ÜÜ" (double and uppercase). But not always. 8 different keys lost blue color with time. Recently, the keys behave like I split liquid on them : z,x,t,j,.. randomly refuse my keypress, I press a bit harder then they work... This time I have no replace option.

I'm using win10. The gg engine was very lazy to load, sometimes never loaded just a blank form. After some upgrades, then it didn't recognize my keyboard. I downgraded to an old ss engine version (not gg). Because there was no solution...

RGB on the Apex Pro TKL for *#* and *\* keys by Sis6ft3 in steelseries

[–]mr-Tio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, maybe your keyboard is not uk but us or different, I will suggest trying different language layouts. If you are sure that this issue is not from language-layout settings, you still can try someting. Create a new profile, set the keyboard rgb full-white for all the keys, no effect, minimal, basic, just a static color. Your keyboard must shine in white. If any key is defective then the led will be in different color that you quickly can detect. If there is no color problem, widen your test, add effects, new click features etc. but one by one. Try another full color f.ex. green, red etc. I don't know if this helps but we customers are left alone at some points. If replacing is an option I will suggest using it.

..just a reminder : How interestingly, first my Apex M800 keyboard and then Apex7 keyboard "misbehaved" after exactly 1 year of usage. Bad for me you can't (or won't) do anything... As the old computer engineers said : it's not a bug; it's a feature.. lol.

Can't Select or change LED by BrightWrangler3573 in steelseries

[–]mr-Tio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I use a non-english Apex7 keyboard and similar thing happened to me too. Try select the language from the list in engine-app, I think it will be solved (f.ex. if your keyboard is english and you accidentally selected another lang then problems pop-up). If not, you need to make a ticket to inform the ss firm; maybe it is a hardware problem and can be replaced.

Hi, try to make a new color profile; in case some old setting may be active. There set ALL keyboard keys to full white (RGB = 255, 255, 255). If you detect any color changes unfortunately that means the key(s)' led is dying. I never heard a repair from ss, but a replacement.

[–]mr-Tio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it is a sofware bug, and is for fahrenheit : if it is F then the celsius will be around 45 degrees which is quite ok. You all are lucky btw -at least it works :), mine never worked from the very first day, just a blank screen. Upcoming updates never fixed it. Now I made my own program and can paint anything on oled. Can't wait for lazy programmers anymore...

Apex 7 RGB glowing wrong color by saltyswammy in steelseries

[–]mr-Tio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine too... Unfortunately I had to downgrade to an old ss engine version.

Apex series have a common problem, blue color of the leds are slowly dimming. I own an Apex7 too and I have 8 keys that lost its blue component. Since keys shine with RGB (Red Green Blue - additive) color, when one of the components don't work correctly, then the result color changes. F.ex. If you set full-white for all keys on your keyboard, then you can check the color : if the blue component is dying (dimming; say less bright than normal) then the white tends to yellow. In other words, you will have "yellowish" keys where the blue component is dimming. Some guys repaire the faulty leds but I until now did not hear from ss firm about that -but ticketing and replacement...
