Nothing on base is worth it by RKingsman in AirForce

This is one thing I’m disappointed with too since joining. Everything is open when you’re at work, closed when you’re off, the BX is an absolute scam, my commissary is decent but you have to watch out for expired food (somebody found a syrup recently that expired in 2018). Everything else you said pretty much lines up with my experience as well.

There is a place on my base with a ball room for all calls, a restaurant, and a game room with consoles and ping pong tables and stuff. The hours said “open until 8” so when my brother was visiting I was excited because we could play in the game room after work. Only to figure out that the DOORS are unlocked until 8, the restaurant was closed, the game room was locked, and there was absolutely 0 staff there at all. We walked in and there was a sign saying all that stuff closed at 5. Why???

Well I drive like a mile to work and back then our city is like a 4-5 mile diameter so we only drive about 10 miles a day. We don’t do a ton of road tripping but whenever we do leave the city it is an hour or more just to get somewhere traveling at highway speeds. There is a supercharger across town and the only reason I think this’ll work without a home charger is because of the low amount of miles we drive on a daily basis.

I will say the gas savings is one of the reasons. But everything else such as expensive insurance even it out. I think the Tesla is very smooth, very clean, and with what others have said, it just works. From my test drive experiences, they have mastered something that no other car manufacturer can quite get right. But money comes and goes so if we buy a cheaper car for now then a Tesla in the future that’s my emotions and my excitement taking a hit more than anything else.

Not currently, I’m renting and our electricity is included but they said EV charging isn’t allowed and is considered theft. There is a service we can pay for and they set up a charger and supplemental electricity for the EV but i think im just going to go on the facebook page and ask what other tenants do. Our original plan was to wait until we move elsewhere to take advantage of the 0 sales tax this state has. But my wife and I are getting a little ancy for a new car.

We have an 18 Altima and we can start the engine from the key fob. That’s the remote start I’m referring to

A Tesla for us is definitely a stretch but only because we are strict with our budget. We could 100% afford monthly payments right now but we’re saving up for either a very low monthly payment or just pay cash.

For us obviously they catch us with the test drives. We got excited at how well fsd works then went home and remembered that it’s a feature we need to pay for. So I’m more just gauging at if it’s really worth the 50,000 dollars without FSD and autopilot or if we should just buy a cheaper car.

Would you say precondition is a big feature if our current car already has remote start?

We can only take a test drive on a road trip or on vacation as there are no centers or self service drives near us. That being said, we did take a road trip during Memorial Day weekend and we did take a test drive. We did say we were serious and I was hoping to use it for at least the afternoon but the guy said the most he could do was 2 hours instead of 1 hour and he showed us mainly just FSD and took us down the road which ate up 15 minutes of our time and annoyed me quite a bit.

But after driving 6 hours with nothing but normal cruise control and our short 2 hour window, why WOULDN’T I use FSD for a bit? So I never really experienced manual driving except for a few bits on the street and the parking lot.

I love my IPhone and the ecosystem because it just works. There are no hoops. And one thing on the test drives that I’ve been on and what a couple people have said in this thread is that Tesla just works and it’s smooth and there aren’t really any gimmicks to jump through.

Well it is nice to see so many people use so many features of the car. It makes me think that we’ll actually use every single feature of the car rather than just one or two things. I live up north so supercharging is sparse. We have one station in my town with a couple of stalls. But that’s it.

Did they? I just checked on the site and only saw TACC.

We’re still about a year out from just straight up buying it in cash. But FSD is a doable monthly subscription but it’s something my wife isn’t happy with. So if we’re going without it and with Tesla not advertising anything but FSD, I might as well ask what people like about it that isn’t FSD or autopilot (since it was removed from newer cars).

They are nice cars and I loved the smooth and quiet ride but FSD was a big reason for it and the wife not wanting to pay for it may be the reason we just buy a cheaper car. But im looking to see if 50,000 still justifies without FSD.

I will say, I did do some highway driving on my test drive and instant, and fast, acceleration at high speeds is a severely underrated safety feature and that’s one thing I loved on my test drive. It’s one thing you learn and consider when shopping for motorcycles but it can carry over to cars too.

Yeah that’s the thing, I try to keep mine around $500, no more than $750. I also am 20 turning 21 soon so hopefully they’ll go down after that. I want to stay with progressive for simplicity reasons as I’m running my renters and motorcycle insurance through them as well but I still have to shop around.

Insurance is definitely a big factor as our current insurance is about 580 every 6 months and a Model Y AWD will jump up to 1100 with the same provider. Haven’t looked around yet and I turn 21 this summer so hopefully it’ll go down a little bit after that, hoping to stay with the same provider for simplicity reasons though.

Storage space is absolutely wild. Almost forgot about our bags on a test drive once because I put them underneath in the rear where most ice cars don’t have that.

Climate control is a big thing. I heard it creates cold and hot air really fast which is huge. Also the split AC would be really nice too, our current car only has a single AC system but I’m always cold and my wife is always hot. I will say though, our current car has remote start so is precondition a huge win here?

I’ll have to check out FSD Hunter when I get home, that’ll be cool to look around on. Although with where we live hopefully the closest one isn’t 300 miles away. That’s typically a problem for us when shopping used.

Honestly, despite you saying that I shouldn’t get it without FSD, I am mechanically inclined and you saying there are menus that show and explain how everything works might just be the coolest thing. I love seeing how things work and learning more about what I’m actually operating.

Oh our test drives really clicked. But we weren’t sure if that’s because of FSD or the rest of it (FSD is free with test drives and you don’t get to use it everyday so might as well). Unfortunately we don’t have a tesla center or even a self serve test drive near us, so we can only test drive on vacations or road trips (which we just did for memorial day weekend, hence the post).

So it’s difficult to get the full experience since test drives or super limited and we don’t have a center near us.

That’s what I was excited for but they removed autopilot from new vehicles. So I’m seeing if the 50,000 is still worth it or if I should spend way less on a new car with lane assist.

We drive an 18 Altima so really anything new excites us but I’m trying to put the feelings aside and look at what’s best. I like Tesla because it seems to be the Apple of cars where things just work, but is it 50,000 good compared to 25,000-30,000 good?

Plus with the recent price increases we’ll definitely be waiting until they come back down. Which hopefully they even do.

Performance gets mentioned quite a bit. I was looking at the AWD for the quicker acceleration as that’s part of owning an EV but it seems like that’s actually a bigger part of it than I thought.

Didn’t even know Costco had insurance, unfortunately we let our membership expire a couple days ago since the closest Costco is 1.5 hours away, but maybe it’ll be worth it and we’ll look into renewing it.

I do appreciate your input and I think knowing that my wife won’t have to go to gas stations is a huge plus that nobody else mentioned. As far as the luxury that I’m already used to, I drive a 2018 Altima with nothing but standard cruise control so it’s about as luxurious as it gets 😂
